Growing up in St. Louis, Cardinal baseball was basically in my blood since birth. In my short 18 years, I've seen the Cardinals win 4 National League pennants, 9 division titles, and 2 world series. I myself have been to an NLCS game in Busch Stadium in 2011 and even went to the victory parade after they won that year.
With that being said, this particular post-season has been very difficult for me. It was hard enough not seeing my boys in the playoffs, but seeing the Cubs make it all the way to the World Series was an even harder pill to swallow. Now that they've won their first World Series Championship since 1908, Myself and Cardinals fans everywhere are going through a rough time, and mourning the loss of their impressive World Series drought. In typical fashion,
Denial
Really? This has to have all been just a bad dream. THE CUBS WINNING THE SERIES. Right. Good one! This can't actually be happening, can it??
Anger
How could anyone let this happen?? SERIOUSLY? Was no one good enough to knock out the Cubs? That's really saying something. First the 2016 Presidential election, now THIS?!? What did we do deserve this?
Bargaining
If only we'd been just a little bit better. It came down to one game. Literally one game! UGH. If only the Cubs had choked in the post season like they usually do! Then we wouldn't even be having this problem.
Depression
I may or may not have shed a tear or two as I folded up my Cardinals jerseys and put them away for the year. It was pretty heartbreaking not seeing my team have another Red October. Plus, Opening Day is so far away. How am I going to make it to April?
Acceptance
Okay, fine. We're happy for you. It's been 108 years, after all, I guess you deserve a win. But, just this once. Baseball is an amazing game that unites people all over the country, and this World Series will absolutely will be, in my mind, one of the best. But don't get used to winning, and don't get cocky. You still have a long way to go before you catch up to our 11 World Series wins.
