5 Things To Do This Spring Break
Rooster Magazine

Now that Spring Break is here, there is a few things that you should be putting on your to do list. One of them is: nothing. That's right. Nothing should be on your to do list for at least one day. Take a mental health day! Let your body rest, sit under a warm blanket with wine, tea, coffee, any drink of your choice and just relax. After you do nothing, here is a few ideas for things that will make your heart smile and your mind/body thank you.

1. See/Call family or friends from home: I know that sometimes speaking with family seems more like a chore than it does a pleasure depending on the family member, but at the end of the call you'll be happy you did it. There's nothing like checking in with mom or grandpa to make you feel like you're home is you can't make it back for the break. If you can make it home, sit down and catch up with them or with old friends. Something about reconnecting really opens your eyes to how far everyone has come and it will remind you of the good things that are happening in your life because sometimes we loose sight of the positives

2. Read!: I know that for some people reading seems boring and reminds us of homework. I am definitely one of those people. But when you find the right book it can pull you in for hours. Reading is a great alternative to being on your phone or computer all day which is known to make us feel more anxious.

3. Exercise: I know what you're all thinking, is this girl crazy?! Exercise is something that is hard to throw yourself into but even if it is yoga, stretching or just going for a nice walk around your neighborhood, you're waking up your body, shaking out the mental cob webs and filling those lungs with fresh air.

4. Spring Cleaning: Although cleaning is the epitome of a chore, there are a lot of fun ways to clean. Open the windows, turn on some music and take some food breaks in between. Cleaning isn't the most exciting thing but when you are done you'll feel like you have more space. Decluttering physically also helps you declutter mentally.

5. Write: Write as though you only have one shot at saying everything you need to say. Write in your journal about everything you're feeling about life. Write poems, write fiction. Write in crayon to remind yourself of your childhood, write pen to paper to make it more concrete, or write in your notes section of your phone when you're on the go. Whatever you do, just write. It'll help with that mental decluttering I taked about earlier.

These five things are just starting points. There are many ways to feel productive during spring break while still feeling relaxed.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
