Spring Time… Party Time

9

Okay, so it’s not technically Spring just yet but it’s beginning to feel a lot like Darty season. Yes, that’s right. The sun has come out to play and day party season is right at the corner here in Fort Worth. No more dreary days where you spend forty-five minutes figuring out how you will layer up for the bitter cold wind you must face to go anywhere. It’s time for all out fun in the sun day ragers. It’s time to break out those PFGs, Hawaiian shirts, bikinis, and throwback jerseys. Hell… cut the legs off your wranglers if you feel like you’ve become physically attached to them during the harsh winter our campus saw. Draw the curtains, feel the sun on your face, grab some friends, grab some brews, and get to a backyard near you. For many of us there has been a long hiatus since we had a legitimate day drinking session, so you must be careful not to fall into a drunken stupor and find yourself blacking out at dinner around 7 p.m.To steer clear from this fate, start early with a nice healthy and large breakfast at home. Feel free to add a mimosa to your breakfast of choice. A healthy breakfast will help because that tiny burger your buddy dropped on the ground and put back on the grill probably won’t be the full supplement your body needs for this long day of shenanigans.

Also, make sure to drink a couple bottles of water while you’re out enjoying the great weather. After the sun starts to make its way down, grab a full meal. You may want to Google the food pyramid to refresh your mind so you know what you need. Veggies, meat, fruit, the works -- eat it, and eat it all. Depending on your age, this may be easy because you have a magical underused resource called the Market Square located in the BLUU.
If you are out of the on-campus living situation then take yourself to a reputable eating establishment other than Mickey D’s. Then, take a nap. Even if it’s for fifteen minutes. This is imperative to your full day of drinking because if you do not, you will fall asleep at the bar that night and that could be awkward. Other than the basic safety necessities mentioned before, go out and have fun. If you’re not busy backyarding it, I recommend attending some of the TCU baseball games and enjoying a nice sunny tailgate. TCU baseball has weekend home series on the following dates (*denotes Big XII play):
March 7-9: Michigan StateMarch 14-16: Dartmouth*March 21-23:Texas Tech*April 4-6: West VirginiaApril 25-27: Cal State Northridge*May 2-3: Kansas State*May 9-10: Oklahoma

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
