It's time to toss out those winter coats and reach for your jean jackets and bomber jackets. It's spring time - one of the brightest times of the year. They say that April showers bring May flowers, but it seems that Manhattan is a little ahead of its game. The sun has been shining a bit brighter and the weather has been amazing to say the least and I think it's important that enjoying nice weather doesn't have to come with a cost.

Spring in the city is beautiful. Everyone is out in the park with their sunglasses half on, people are jamming out to the latest hits, and each individual is doing their best not to spend too much money on brunch. Although brunch is amazing, this weekend, I was able to save a few bucks by making eggs and toast at home with my favorite people. I had my own homemade cup of coffee as I watched the sun shine through my window and all under $8 too. With this in mind, I collected a few ideas for spring that are well under an expensive budget.

1. Picnic in the park

Grab cheese, crackers, and a few meat slices - don't forget about the fresh fruits, and veggies that are less than $10 at Trader Joe's!

2. A run along the river

Grab your running shoes and become one with nature. A run, a stroll, or a slow-paced walk - it doesn't matter the pace, as long as you're outside. Mother nature knows how to give gifts and spring is definitely one of them!

3. Make a delicious smoothie

The fresh strawberries and blueberries from the farmer's market on union square seem like the perfect combination for a delicious smoothie.

4. Invite your pals for a homemade brunch

Trader Joe's has delicious hash browns that only require hungry guests and a few minutes on the stovetop. Don't forget about the organic syrup and delicious honey to drizzle over those fluffy pancakes as well! (and remember those fruits you bought from the farmer's market? well they would also look perfect on this bed of pancakes as well)

5. An inexpensive book-nook getaway

Strand bookstore has $1 books outside where you can read and enjoy. In fact, the bookstore itself is beautiful as well. What a perfect getaway that costs much less than a plane ticket. Even Belle from Beauty and the Beast appears to think so too.

6. Watch all the Oscar winning movies once or even 12 times

Now, everyone quit focusing on the meme's and go watch these inspiring movies! Renting a movie has never been so easy (and inexpensive)

7. Leave your windows open

Nothing says hello spring like floral prints, radiant rays, and homemade ice coffee that costs less than $9

10. Check out the outdoor flowers and the succulents

Whether you're walking to class or to your internship or even to the local convenient store to run errands, take a few seconds to appreciate the colors around you. The flowers are now in bloom and they all seem to be cheering you on not only today, but everyday.

Personally, it is so weird to be able to go out without my huge scarves and thick jackets, but it's true, the toughest journeys reap the best gifts. To everyone out there who was waiting for the cold to disappear, enjoy this weather; spring is truly a season to thrive in.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
