What Makes Spring So Special

And why this is a season to celebrate.

There is no doubt about it that Spring is a magical season.

Finally, there is no bitterness in the air. There are no more chilly walks to class where it is so cold we can’t even lift our heads because the air is piercing. Finally, after what felt like years, the sun is poking out of what seemed to be forever gray skies.

Additionally, it means for me that I don’t have to have super cold hands anymore. Anyone who has self-diagnosed themselves with a disease called Raynaud's, where your arteries close up in your hands and feet due to coldness, can relate with me. It is not cute one bit to have your hands turn to a purplish tint.

However, it makes the bloom of Spring even sweeter. The birds will be singing, instead of the vague deadness of the outdoors. At good ole Miami, people will camp out in the quads on some nice blankets. Maybe some will even work while in their chairs that they bring down from their dorm rooms. (Yes, I know people who do this, and it is just brilliant).

Spring means color. We will finally see the blue of the sky replace the gray, darkness of overcast. There will be the green of trees accompanying us by the green of the grass. Little flowers will bloom, purple and blue and yellow. And the colors go as far as Starbucks, which is gladly changing up their cups for the Spring. Just looking at one will make you happier.

The tour groups and the tour guides will look way more comfortable walking through Miami. Instead of looking miserable at the fact that they can see their own breath during the tour (even though Miami still makes a good impression in the midst of these circumstances), these people will be at ease.

Spring means listening to the rustle of the leaves in the trees on a walk to class. It means listening to the birds chirping. Listening to the rain pound on the ground while you are safe in a library, or the thunder rumble your dorm room while you are finding comfort with your best friends watching a scary movie.

It means the bikers are out, and finally you can go on that run on that one trail that gives you the deepest peace.

Spring means formals. It means sunny days. It means better moods. It means smiles. It means laughs.

It also means spending the last couple of weeks of the semester with the ones you love most. Freshmen, you are just about to end a life changing year that you will never forget. You are on to the last couple of weeks with best friends you had the privilege to grow close with this past year.

Sophomores and Juniors, you are off to making the most wonderful memories with your best friends, which you’ll be parted from for a couple of months only to see them again in the Fall.

Seniors, this is the tail end. You are taking the sunshine and fresh breeze of Miami for the last time. This Spring means friendship and closure, so it's important to soak this season up as much as possible.

Whatever state you are in, Spring is a beautiful season to embrace. Take in the sunshine, breathe the fresh air of the newly planted flowers, and jump in as many puddles as you possibly can. Spring is a season to forever be grateful for.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
