To The College Student Facing Spring Semester Burnout, You're Doing Great, Just Hang In There

There is a light at the end of the tunnel — hang in there!

I went into winter break ready to recharge for my spring semester. I worked a bit, slept a lot, and hung out with family. I assumed going back into the swing of things for classes would just take maybe a week, tops, to adjust. That being said, it's the end of March, and I still haven't fully readjusted. I have ZERO desire to do anything but watch "Teen Mom 2" and eat M&M's until I pass out into a food coma. Trust me when I say I feel the pain of the spring semester burnout so hard right now, and it sucks because I know how well I want to do, but the effort just isn't there like it was first semester.

It's easy to just say, screw it, I don't care anymore, there are just seven weeks left and then I'm free for the summer. Don't fall into that mental state! You've made it this far, just push yourself for the long haul because you can do it. It's nicer out, you'll be waking up happier than ever. Think of heading to the beach to catch some sun or ice cream trips for study breaks. Now that it's spring you have so many more opportunities to make doing your school work more enjoyable just by being outside in the sun.

This is the last lap, the one that feels like the longest, but once it's over, you'll have to do a double take because of how fast it actually went by. This is always the part of the year that feels like it's never going to finish. You just want to go home for summer break, get to work or start that internship, and catch up with your hometown friends! You have to remember you have all summer for that, don't forget to soak in all that's going on right now.

You won't see some college friends until the fall, so take this time to spend together, whether it's eating at the dining hall (even though you're so over the food there) or visiting a coffee shop you have never gone to before off campus. Whatever you do, do it with friends, but do remember alone time is important too. Take a few minutes to breathe and remind yourself how strong you are as well as how great the year has been, despite the ups and downs.

Match with a cute Tinder boy and do what you want with him, a little fling before you go home is always a great study break. Let yourself get a little sun-kissed before finals grip the entire month of May. Enjoy your independence until you go home, and push yourself to get the best grades you can. It may feel like you'll never get out of this spring slump, but trust me, the light is at the end of the tunnel for all of us.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
