With Christmas and New Year’s behind us and 2017 upon us, it is time for students everywhere to get ready for a new semester. While I am sad that my break is coming to an end, I am super excited to go back to school for the Spring 2017 semester. Here are a few reasons I am excited about going back to school, and a few reasons why I am not so excited to be going back to school.

1. I get to see my friends and roommates again.

Even though I’ve only known these people for a few months, and we’ve only been gone for a couple of weeks, I really missed my friends and roomies. I can’t wait to see them again.

2. Going back to college means I have to pack.

I hate packing.

I don’t know why, but I hate packing. It’s not that I’m not excited to go back to school, or that I’m not excited to go home for the weekend or to go wherever I’m going, it’s just that I hate packing.

3. For some reason, I can’t get my things to fit in my bags on the first try.

When I finally do decide to pack my bags, I can’t get everything to fit into my bags on the first try, so I end up frantically searching for more bags, rather than take things out of my already packed bags.

4. I get to buy new school supplies!

I’ve always gotten excited about getting new school supplies, and this semester is no different. I love getting new binders, pens, notebooks, and highlighters.

5. It’s January, not August, so none of the school supplies are on sale.

While I will always love getting new school supplies, I love it a bit more in August than I do in January. It’s always more fun to buy things when you’re saving money than it is to buy them at full price. I wish stores had a back-to-school sale in January, too!

Ultimately, while the start of a new semester means I have to go back to spending an insane amount of time in the library, studying all the time, and completing homework and reading assignments, it also means I get to go back to my second home, Lander. I get to see the people who have turned into my second family. Even though college is challenging, I am excited to go back and see what this semester has in store.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
