Spring Cleaning... Your Life

It's time for New Spring... New You. What are you going to get rid of this Spring?

Spring Cleaning... Your Life

The birds are singing, bees are buzzing and the flowers are blooming. Hopefully, everything around you is starting to be a little brighter and happier. With that, that means Spring has finally arrived and it's time to say goodbye to a few things. Old clothes, crappy friends and bad habits. Just like that New Years resolution you made just a few months ago... and never completed? Well no need to worry, its time for your new resolution! New spring, New You... Right?

Old Clothes

Spring means warmer weather and warmer weather means bringing back out all of those cute short sleeve tops and those adorable shorts you tucked away last November. Bringing out your old clothes and doing a little shopping means you have to get rid of some old things. Think back to the past couple of cold months and then take a look at your wardrobe... Is there anything you didn't wear? Anything that didn't fit? If so, it's a goner.

Crappy friends

While you're getting rid of those clothes that you didn't need anymore, why don't you get rid of those friends who maybe aren't 'fitting' anymore. It is okay to get rid of friends... Maybe not get rid of but just hide in the back of all your other friends for a while, just like that shirt your mom got you for Christmas that comes around every once in a while, but isn't the best thing you could wear. That crappy friend may be that shirt you never want to take out of the drawer. So why not just get rid of it while you're getting rid of other things? In the long run, it will help you if you take away the crappy friends who just drag you down. Gotta start working on that New You.

Bad Habits

Remember that annoying habit you do when you're nervous? Or when you tell yourself that you're done having late night snacks that include chocolate, ice-cream and your favorite candy? Well the New Spring, New You says no more! It is time to break those habits that you and everyone around you can not stand. It takes 30 days for someone to break a habit and the first day of Spring is today, March 20th. Even if you're reading this a couple days late, if you start changing your bad habits into good habits today, by the end of April, the New You is in full swing.

No one ever said it would be easy to get rid of some clothes you never wear, friends who aren't making you better and habits that no one can stand. But it is time to get your life in shape, summer is fast approaching. Keep in mind that if you get rid of these things now, you won't be wasting your time when summer break is here and you could be sitting outside in the sun. Just keep telling yourself New Spring, New You.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
