Spring Brings The Best Kind Of Change

With spring starting, everyone has new beginnings. In the past month or so, I have been able to do so many amazing things. I have absolutely loved every minute of it. So here is just a little rant. Well, I guess it's just me rambling on. But I have learned that as seasons change, so can things in your life. Whether it's for better or for worse, they are just more chapters in your life. Spring brought me change in a good way. It brought me new friends, new adventures, new opportunities and new memories to last a lifetime.

Starting back in February, I traveled to Chicago for a weekend with some amazing friends for a social media tour called PressPlay. It was a weekend full of laughs, love, tears, long travel days and late nights, so many late nights. I had met so many new people as well as hung out with my friends. There are so many memories I will never forget that were made that weekend.

About a week after traveling to Chicago, I got to actually enjoy one of the first concerts I have gone to in a while. I say this because I shadow a lot of tour managers. I absolutely love doing this, but sometimes it nice to be able to just have fun and not have anything to worry about. I got to see one of my favorite duos, Jack & Jack, and one of my favorite pop artists, Daya. They were so freaking amazing live. I also got to meet Jack & Jack that day as well. Jack & Jack were absolutely some of the sweetest guys I have ever met. I hope that one day I will be able to work on tour for Jack & Jack and Daya.

Fast-forward to March, aka spring time. Here at Ball State over spring break, there was a brand new TV show filming called "The Song." It is a reality singing competition, but it is different than other singing shows. This show focuses on the songwriting aspect. The contestants all sang their own songs and own music. I got the opportunity to work as an intern on the show with other Ball State students as well. It was a very long week but it was absolutely worth it. So many people have asked me what I got out of the experience as an intern working with the show for the week. Here's my answer: I have gotten so much out of being an intern on "The Song." I learned so much in so little time. I know from past experiences from job shadowing tour managers that everybody does everything differently. You have to learn how they do everything in a very short period of time and you have to learn how to do it quite fast. I love the fast-paced environment of filming and working with everyone. People say you grow so close to everyone on set (crew, cast, etc) in such a little amount of time, which is so very true. I've made friendships that will last me a lifetime and learned information that will help me in the music industry. I also learned that you have to take things as they come. There isn't always a set schedule. The schedule can always change, so be ready for absolutely anything. I also learned that tour managers all do things differently and you have to be able to adjust to change quickly. Also, never be late - always be early. That one is always a given, though.

Then, after all of this happened, I found out I had gotten a new job working with video and photography with the Ball State Football team. I'm also getting to work with an artist during CMA Fest. I could not be any happier. So I feel as if I received wonderful and new opportunities as spring started. I know that this is just another chapter of my life that is starting.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
