The time has come. We can live out our days from the break of dawn to the shutters of night until it becomes a sleepless cycle. Spring break is finally here for us VCU students and many more across the country and man does it feel good to be done with midterms. For some, they can finally breathe and relax without the feeling of guilt knowing there is something to be done, while some are still trying to cramp in relaxation between projects due after break and readings to get done. Whatever your situation might be, relaxation, projects, readings, or working – most college students always make time to jam it out to their favorite tunes. This spring break when you are tired of the same old songs, take a spin at these throwback songs. Also, because black history should be year round, all these artists are…you guessed it – BLACK!
1. “Ignition Remix” by R. Kelly
If you have ever experienced a crazy, wild, exciting night with different stages – this song is you. This is your spirit anthem – wear it proudly like a pageant sash.
2. “Creep” by TLC
Everybody knows “Waterfalls” and “No Scrubs,” but this song is an underrated masterpiece. This song is empowering – never be afraid to seek what you need. Also it totally puts you in the mood for a 90s dance party.
3. “No Diggity” by Blackstreet feat. Dr. Dre and Queen Pen
This song speaks for itsself. Fellas, if you feeling a girl and you trying to get through to her – play her this song.
4. “Poison” by Bell Biv DeVoe
Even if you have never heard this song before, I bet you’ve heard the phrase made popular by this song – “Never trust a big butt and a smile, that girl is poison.”
5. “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Whitney Houston
Whitney is screaming what every lonely person at a party, club, or social gathering is thinking and better yet, putting it in a song.
6. “Real Love” by Mary J Blige
Now this right here, this will have you in your feelings. We all want that special kind of love and this song will have you painting Prince/Princess Charming in your head.
7. “Pony” by Ginuwine
Baby-making music. Get-your-freak-on music. Channing-Tatum-in-Magic-Mike music. I’m-becoming-a-stripper-life-changing-decision music. Find-a-pony-and-straddle-up music.
8. “Pretty Wings” by Maxwell
This is the sweetest "I love you but be free of me" breakup song I have heard thus far. It is just so beautiful and Maxwell’s voice sounds like angels.
Add these eight songs to your spring break playlist and nothing can stop you from having the best week ever!
