What to do for Spring Break if You're Strapped for Cash

There are two words that can make any college student get excited and stressed out simultaneously. Two words that can make them jump for joy but also get out their laptop and stress search Google. Those two little words are "spring break". As a high schooler, spring break could be one of two things: exciting because your family is actually going somewhere, or just a break from the day to day 8am-3pm schedule. But as a college student spring break is without a doubt the most fun break. Why, you ask? Well, not only are you in college, so that is a plus but because you can go wherever and do whatever, as long as you have the money to do it.

The root of any problem is almost always money. Some are blessed with parents that will pay for their trips, or they have been saving up for god knows how long to be able to afford that trip to Europe. But, the rest of the population isn’t as lucky.

Some have to go home and work, others have to pay bills, and some just want to see their family; all valid reasons of course. But I believe everyone should have a fun break from the rigorous life that is college. So, here are some ideas for a fun spring break if you are strapped for cash.

1. Road trip

Pack up all your shit in a trunk, get your friends, and find out where you want to go. Imagine all the memories you all will make in that short amount of time? Go to the beach, the mountains, or somewhere you've never been.

2. Offer to house sit for a relative that lives somewhere cool

Hey, you never know what could happen, also you are in a place that you (hopefully) don't go to often. Plus its family so you won't have to pay for housing.

3. Go to Canada

This will only work if you are close enough to get there. Usually, people like to go somewhere exotic, like Mexico or the Caribbean, but have you ever thought about Canada? The magical land that is Canada? Pay our friendly neighbor to the north a visit.

4. Donate your time

Go volunteer at an animal shelter, homeless shelter, or soup kitchen. No one will ever turn down extra help, and you can make someone's day! Or even make your own day by playing with some puppies or kitties!

5. Be a tourist in your own city

If you must stay home, may I suggest touring downtown, going to see a play, seeing a concert, going to a museum, etc. There is so much you can do if you live in a metropolis type city!

6. Go visit an establishment you always pass by, but never walk into

That cool building that you always pass on the way to Starbucks? Walk in and ask what's going on. That religious center you know nothing about? Spend the afternoon there learning. There has to be some kind of park, library, anything that you can go explore!

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
