13 Things To Do During A Spring Break Staycation, Because A Normal Vacation Costs Money

As fun as it is to travel somewhere during our limited time away from college, sometimes it’s nice to simply stay home. Any place that doesn’t involve tireless hours spent at the library with more coffee in your bloodstream than actual blood is probably a good place to be. Enjoy your staycation! There are so many things you can do all from the comfort of your home or neighborhood!

1. Have a spa day

Look up a facial mask recipe on Pinterest: use ingredients you have at home and enjoy a relaxing day kicking back with some cucumbers over your eyelids. (Does anyone know what the cucumber is actually for?)

2. Go to the movies

We need to start going to the movie theatre more often! I have recently seen a bunch of movies at the theatre and it’s so much fun and it’s a great way to spend a rainy afternoon

3. Watch Netflix

I mean this one is a given.

4. or HULU

I don’t know if anyone else noticed, but Hulu is making a comeback. Netflix better watch out that’s all I have to say. The majority of series Netflix drops, Hulu picks up. One Tree Hill, Jersey Shore, The O.C. and Drake and Josh, are all on Hulu. You guys need to check it out!

5. Go to a museum

If you live in the Chicagoland area, I suggest checking out The Science and Industry Museum. It’s my personal favorite in the city.

6. Dedicate a day to wearing pajamas

Make your motivation for the day to be as comfy as possible!

7. Read a book

On long breaks, I usually pick a book to read for fun and try to finish it by the end of the break. During the school year I don’t usually have a ton of free time to read as often as I would like to, so I take advantage of this time!

8. Make ice cream!

This is one of my favorite activities! It’s simple and doesn’t take much time at all!

9. Facetime your friends from school

I know I’ll be missing my friends this week while we’re all gone and home. Don’t be afraid to call them up and talk!

10. Enjoy time with your family

Spend time together! My family likes to play board games and the Wii. My mom’s favorite Wii game is curling from the winter sports game!

11. Eat breakfast with your friends

Spending time with your friends that you don’t get to see all the time is also super important! Make time to see them! Whether you decide to go out to eat or stay in and make breakfast, this is always a fun meal to share with friends!

12. Hug your pets

Get all the love in while you can, this break is short and soon we will be back at school missing our furry friends.

13. Try something new or crazy!

Whatever this means to you, do it! Live life to the fullest, don’t waste away this break!

Sometimes it seems like staying home for spring break is the worst. In reality, it can be the best way to spend your vacation. As fun as it is to be on a beach, we don’t appreciate the time we spend at home with the people that mean the most to us. It doesn’t matter where you go this spring break, it matters how you choose to spend your few days away from textbooks and insane-asylum-white walls.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
