Spring Break Realizations

So close, yet so far away.

The last major break from school before summer break is here. Some of us are soaking up the sun on a beach while others are sprawled out on a couch. Either way, we are enjoying the relaxation while it lasts. As we reminisce on the school year thus far, we realize quite a few things.

1. Summer break is only half of a semester away.

Half of a semester stands between us and the warm, sunny days of summer. Your plans of vacationing to the beach, taking a camping trip or attending that outdoor concert will be a reality in the near future.

2. But wait… that means we still have half a semester of classes left.

So maybe the future is not quite so near. We still have half of a semester of shoving our faces in books and papers. Even though we will sulk about it now, the hard work will pay off.

3. And finals.

Nevermind. The sulking will continue until that last final is finished.

4. We miss our friends from school.

You spend every day with your roommates, walk a few feet down the hall to see your friends and sit by the same classmate you’re low-key bros with every class. Our campuses and the people we meet become our home away from home, and it’s difficult to not become attached.

5. But it’s great to catch up with hometown friends.

Your friends will never let you live that embarrassing middle school story down, and it seems to get more comical every time it’s told. Childhood and high school friends will forever remain an important part of your past, and it’s wonderful to keep in touch.

6. And spend time with family.

Your school’s dining services are nothing compared to mama’s meals. Dad’s jokes are rolling off his tongue. Your siblings are still bratty as ever, but you miss their annoying antics. Family seems to become more important as you spend more time away from them. With the little time you do have to spend with them, give them your undivided attention and be appreciative.

7. We’re one year closer to the rest of our lives.

It’s a scary thought. In half of a semester, we will have completed one more year of education that prepares us for the real world. In the same breath, it’s exhilarating. We are closer to becoming independent, responsible working individuals.

8. We need to enjoy these years while they last.

In my case, I am about to finish my freshman year of college. I feel like this first year flew by in the blink of an eye. I have met amazing people and created amazing memories during this first year, and I am thrilled to think of the years to come. If only time could slow down…

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
