After Spring Break: How To Finish The Semester Strong
Dabbles & Babbles

Spring break is wonderful. Relaxing by the beach, getting a nice tan, reading a great book, and really not getting up for the most part.

However, sometimes when we get back from break, it can be hard to refocus on school.

These days need to be approached properly, so you can really knock the rest of the semester out of the park. Here are some tips on how to do so.

1. Plan ahead.

What do you have due a week from now, even three weeks from now? Do you have any finals that have already been assigned? If so, start planning. Additionally, start thinking of how you are going to approach these. The sooner you start, the easier these assignments are going to be.

2. Don't procrastinate.

While working on these projects or studying for these exams, make sure you don't fall into distraction. Leave your phone in your backpack, and make sure you stay off of Facebook while on your laptop. Procrastinating only makes the work last longer.

3. Reward yourself.

After working really hard, make sure to reward yourself. Whether it is a couple of M&M's, that new Starbucks drink you have been dying to try or a date with your favorite television show, it is important that you reward yourself. Truthfully, you deserve it. It is okay to give yourself some credit.

4. Take care of yourself.

In the midst of ending the semester strong, you need to make time to take care of yourself. This includes giving your body nutritious food (despite that chocolate cake that they serve every so often in your fav dining hall). This also includes working out. Exercise not only strengthens your body, but it's also good for your mental health. You need an outlet to burn off stress, and it's scientifically proven that a nice workout can do that for you. Also, it can be hard to have alone time during college, so working out can be a great time to reflect on your thoughts.

5. Don't stress too much.

In the midst of the second half of the semester, you will get stressed. But in the long term, is school really worth losing sleep over? If you failed your test, you are not a failure. Maybe you try to study harder next time, or maybe this subject is not your forte. One thing I have learned in college is that getting anxious does more harm than good. Life is too short to be anxious. I am not saying you should never try in school, but if you study your hardest and you do the best you can without going mentally insane, you should give yourself a pat on the back. You are worth much, much more than your GPA. When you're stressing, consider whether what you are freaking out about will matter in ten years. Chances are it won't, and you are wasting precious time worrying about it.

Above all, have some faith. You are almost at the finish line! It is time for you to get focused and kick some serious butt this semester. I believe in you, but what matters most is that you believe in yourself.

Start believing, and you will be shocked at the goals you are achieving.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
