Spring Break Expectations Vs. Reality

Will your spring break meet your hopes and dreams?

Spring Break Expectations Vs. Reality

We've finally made it to that point in spring semester where it's time for spring break season. It's midway through the semester, and it's time to get away from campus for a little bit. We have all deserved this break after working so hard these past few weeks.

But let's face it, spring break isn't always what we hope and dream it to be. Sometimes things just don't work out the way you planned. The reality of spring break can be quite different than your sunny expectations.

1. You decide to go down south with your friends and can't wait for the sunny weather...

The cold and the snow have to go.

...But the weather isn't always on your side.

Tropical weather can be temperamental and sometimes bring rain.

2. You're expecting to get really tan...

...But you'll probably get a good sun burn.

It's been way too long since your skin has seen the sun.

3. You might expect to have a week full of partying...

...But you'll likely be very hungover each morning.

Get ready for the worst hangovers of your life. You'll still party through it like a champ, though.

4. Taking a road trip to your spring break destination with your friends will be a lot of fun!

Taking road trips is an adventure, and it's great doing it with all of your friends! You get to gossip, eat a bunch of snacks and see some cool sights.

...But the fun in the car wears off at some point.

Long car rides are hell. The first few hours are fun, but there comes a time when you're more than ready to get out of the car. You need your personal space back.

5. Your spring break will be full of adventure...

Maybe you'll go somewhere new and explore a bunch of cool places. Maybe you're thinking of going to your favorite spot in Florida and hope to do some wild things.

...But maybe you just go home to chill.

There's nothing wrong with spending your spring break at home. You get to catch up on your favorite TV shows, watch movies, your parents cook for you and you get to sleep in your own bed.

6. It's going to be a great, amazing week with all of your friends.

...But sometimes you can't avoid drama.

The majority of break will be perfectly fine and fun, but drama happens, especially with a large group of people. Personalities can clash, and it can be tough being around people 24/7.

7. One of the best things about spring break is the break from school...

Yay no quizzes or exams or papers!

...But you might still have homework anyway.

It's fine, my professors just hate me.

8. You expect to have some awesome food...

Whether at home or on vacation, you're excited to finally eat well (and somewhere other than the dining hall).

...Yeah, the food is good.

Honestly, you can't really go wrong with food.

9. You look forward to bonding with your pals...

You get to spend a whole week together!

...You will bond, and you might even make new friends.

10. You expect to have one of the best weeks ever...

...And you will.

There might be a few bumps along the way, but you'll have fun with your friends/family, no matter where you are.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
