Spring break is right around the corner which means a week of relaxation (hopefully), sunny days, and lots and lots of free time. One of my favorite things to do during spring break is to catch up on for-fun reading! During the quarter, I'm so busy with school reading that I don't have time to pick up and read any of the books that I chose for myself. So, I've been compiling a list of some great spring break books to read once this quarter is over!

1. "Children of Blood and Bone" by Tomi Adeyemi.

This is one of my most anticipated reads of the year! A West African-inspired fantasy novel, this book sounds so good. There's a lot of hype around it and I've heard it's 100% deserved. No matter where you are this spring break, you need to get your hands on a copy of this book.

2. "Nothing Left to Burn" by Heather Ezell.

Set in Southern California, this novel takes place over 24 hours and follows a girl named Audrey as she evacuates her home due to the threat of a fire. While this book isn't out yet, I'm definitely going to be at a bookstore the moment it is.

3. "A Man Called Ove" by Fredrik Backman.

This one has been sitting on my shelf forever and I really want to *finally* pick it up this spring break. A bitter old man learning how to enjoy life and love again when his new neighbors move in? I'm all for that heartwarming story!

4. "To Kill a Kingdom" by Alexandra Christo.

I. WANT. TO. READ. THIS. BOOK. SO. BAD. A murderous siren? A pirate prince? Yes, please, give this to me now. I can't wait until I get the chance to read this one. I'm definitely going to be taking it to the beach with me and laying out by the water!

5. "The Hating Game" by Sally Thorne.

This is one of my favorite books ever. A hate-to-love romance that's laugh-out-loud funny. While I've already read it, I'm sure I'll find time this break to pick it up once again.

6. "A Map for Wrecked Girls" by Jessica Taylor.

Two sisters stranded on an island after a shipwreck. While I wouldn't suggest reading this on a cruise or a boat, picking this up on dry land is sure to be fun! It sounds like an incredible book full of sisterly drama and love. I can't wait to pick it up!

7. "Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda" by Becky Albertalli.

This book has been getting a ton of hype since its release and that hype has been renewed after the announcement of a movie adaptation coming out! This would be a perfect book to read over spring break — just in time to watch the movie!

8. "Amy & Roger's Epic Detour" by Morgan Matson.

Going on a road trip this spring break? Make sure to pack this one! It's an epic and super sweet novel all about Amy and Roger (duh) who take a cross-country road trip!

9. "Fangirl" by Rainbow Rowell.

As someone who loves reading, this book is always a fun and relatable story to dive into. A coming-of-age story about a girl who's more comfortable in fictional worlds than the real one, "Fangirl"is an amazing and emotional book that will make your spring break even better!

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
