8 Activities I Want To Do Over Spring Break

A week where all the dumb kids go to Cancun and all the level headed people get to relax. - Urban Dictionary

8 Activities I Want To Do Over Spring Break

My original Spring Break plans got canceled and although sad, I'm trying to look at the bright side. A two-week trip is now an open two weeks with an abundance of opportunities to make it what I want. Instead of sitting around and feeling sorry for myself, I've turned to look at all of my options and figure out my best course of action. These are some of the activities I'm hoping to incorporate.

RELAX.

Classes are on pause for a week but there are still assignments to look into and complete in order to get ahead for after the break. Nonetheless, I think the most important part of this break is to take the time to breathe and relax a little bit.

Sleep.

The last few weeks have consisted of several late nights spent working on papers and assignments. Some much-needed sleep would be great over this break. I'd like to end the week feeling replenished and ready for the last month and a half of the semester.

Hike.

The outdoors are a wonderful place to enjoy a nice breath of fresh air. There are several parks around Tallahassee and Florida in general that I've wanted to explore and now is my chance. Although I'd prefer to go hiking with someone, I think taking the time to go by myself will give me an insight into the world we live in. I've also realized that instead of constantly waiting to find people to do activities with, I should treat myself and learn to enjoy doing things on my own.

Travel.

Instead of traveling out of the country, I want to travel to see family up North. I haven't seen a lot of my family in a while and it would be nice to do so before graduation in May.

Read.

Growing up, I always had a book in hand and I'd like to get back to that. Maybe not as excessive as I was but I thoroughly enjoy reading and want to make a habit of it. Books are an escape from reality with something different behind every cover. If I could find a nice place outdoors to sit and read over break, I wouldn't complain.

Clean.

With graduation around the corner, deep cleaning my room is essential. I wouldn't say it is a complete mess but it is messy and I definitely need to go through all of my belongings before I move. What better time to do that then over Spring Break?

Write.

I used to write poetry quite often and I'd like to get back into it. It's a way for me to express my feelings without explicitly stating them. Although no one really sees it, it's more for me anyway.

Relax.

Again, one of the main things that I hope to get out of this week is the time to relax. If nothing else comes of this week, I will be content with relaxing a bit.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
