We are officially one month into 2019, and with New York Fashion Week starting this Friday, February 8th, it's no wonder that so many trends are taking form. Some shows like Schiaparelli and Valentino have already happened, and these trends have not only been present across those runways but have already started taking over the streets. My 5 favorite trends of 2019 are ones that not only make a statement but they also easily translate into everyday life. From the color of the season to the classic patterns that are making a comeback, these are my top 5 trends of Spring 2019 and where to find them...

1. Mustard Yellow

A couple of summers ago, mustard yellow made a HUGE comeback in mainstream fashion. Every single store in the mall would be showcasing something this color, which made for the perfect summer shade. But as the weather got colder, mustard yellow slowly disappeared into the same old dreary colors of winter. But after having been hidden among the blacks and grays of the snowy season, in Spring 2019 mustard is finally back and it's better than ever! After dominating runways like Givenchy and Marc Jacobs, this golden color is sure to sweep the streets this Spring. Try pairing a mustard blouse with dark wash or black jeans for a simple but stylish look, or be bold and try an asymmetric dress that is sure to make a statement! Either way, you can't go wrong with the color of the season!

2. Biker Shorts

As we saw celebrity icons such as the Kardashians start to take over this trend, biker shorts slowly became popular toward the end of 2018. But in 2019, they're coming in hot and heavy. Featured on huge runways like Fendi and Prada, these shorts are a sure fire way to stay on trend this season. With Forever 21 selling bike shorts starting at $3.90, there's no reason you shouldn't pick up a pair this year. Staying cute and comfy is a balance that we all need to find on some days, and biker shorts give off that perfect chic but sporty look that we've all been looking for. Keep it simple with a pair of black shorts and a denim blouse or white tee, or amp up your look by going for bold colors and keeping your silhouette simple. Yes, these aren't your everyday shorts, but they should be. Give them a try in 2019 and I guarantee it'll be your comfiest year yet!

3. Feathers

It's no secret that animal prints and fur have been huge trends over the last couple of years, but feathers? Those are finally making a comeback—and I hope they're here to stay! As a kid, feather boas are everyone's best friend. Unfortunately, society eventually turned their backs on the fun and flirty material, but feathers are unapologetically making their way back into our lives. Featured on runways like Valentino and Gucci, feathers are once again our favorite "statement-maker". With objectively obnoxious designs and clashing patterns on the runways, feathers might not seem like a good move for an everyday look in 2019. But feather detailing is where the success of this trend really lies. Try a simple top with feather detailing on the sleeves paired with blue jeans but a casually trendy look, or try an over-the-top feather detailed dress to make a statement on a night out. This trend is just a grown-up version of the classic feather boa and us woman are undoubtedly going to own it this Spring... Sorry boys ;)

4. Polka Dots

You can never go wrong with a classic, and a polka dot print is more than a classic. Polka dots have hit hard on runways like Burberry and Dolce & Gabbana, but such a simple pattern doesn't just have to exist in the world of high fashion. Black and white polka dots make a much bigger statement than you might think. With a monochromatic look, white or black accessories can amp up a simple silhouette in no time. Try a simple polka dot blouse with some black or white jeans for a quick and easy on-trend look that anyone can pull off. If you like to stand out more, pair a dress like the one below with some booties and a baker boy hat to play with contrast on a whole new level! No matter what look you're going for, incorporating polka dots into your wardrobe this season is an absolute must!

5. Khaki

Growing up, I had the biggest love/hate relationship with khaki. Every Sunday morning, my parents would make me wear khaki dress pants to church and although I will never forgive them, I have to admit that it's finally khaki's time to shine! Khaki has been becoming more and more present in mainstream fashion, but on this season's runways it has almost completely taken over. Designer brands like Miu Miu, Tom Ford, and Dior, have strongly featured khaki in their Spring collections. With everything from khaki jumpsuits and dresses to good old khaki pants, this neutral shade has really made a name for itself this season. For an innocent and earthy look, pair a khaki utility dress with gold hoops and neutral shoes. You can even incorporate khaki into your streetwear with khaki colored cargo pants and a cropped graphic tee for a juxtaposed look that is sure to turn heads this Spring. Give khaki a try! Even after years of khaki related trauma, I sport this on-trend color with everything I've got!

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
