Mass shootings taking innocent lives. Actors, singers, and artists taken tragically and far to young. Disease, poverty, homelessness.
In a world filled with so much sadness and loss, it's a wonder how we all continue to get up and live our lives every morning. But if events like the shooting at Pulse Night Club in Orlando or the killing of singer Christina Grimmie can have any good come from such tragedy; it should be to remind all of us that not a second of this life is promised. Not a single day is guaranteed. You never know when the next shoe will drop and if your school, community, family or friends will be the next to be affected.
Now, this does not go to say that we should live our lives in fear of being struck down by horrible unforeseen misfortune, resorting to spending our days in the relative security of our homes for fear of leaving. That is not what I mean. But horrible events like these should help to bring into perspective that no one knows when there time on this earth will come to an end. Not a single one of us knows which day will be our last. Let this be a reminder that we have a duty to those who have lost there lives to lie our lives to the absolute fullest.
Remind your friends and family how much you love them. Call your grandma on the phone if you haven't talked in a while. Take your sister out for ice cream. Offer to help your mom cook dinner or your dad with the yard work. Send a text to a friend just to remind the how much they mean to you.
Go on an adventure. Take a walk on a beach or spend a day at a new coffee shop with friends. Do something that scares you. Tell someone you love them for the first time.
Live like there is no tomorrow.
Because, like you have heard a million times before, we aren't sure there is a tomorrow. If today was the last day you lived on this earth, would you be satisfied with how you spent it?
If not, start now. Because in a world filled with so much hate, darkness, death and sadness, it is our duty to make out own lives as bright and passion filled as possible.
We have a duty to those who have lost there lives to lie our lives to the absolute fullest.
You only get one lifetime. You only get one story.
Make yours count.
