There is nothing nice and good in the media these days. Every day I look at social media or the television, and all I see is hate and anger. There is so much hate in the world right now. I believe that, as children of God, God wants us to show love, especially as the world is in so much sin. We have racial and religious hate; it is quite painful to see. As Christians, I believe we are called to spread the love of Christ, especially in today's world.
In every problem we face, God opens a big door and opportunity for us to use to glorify him. The Charleston, South Carolina, shooting is an example. The family of those that died forgave the man that killed those people in the church. That right there shows that they have overcome hatred and revenge, and opted for love and forgiveness instead. They even went on and glorified God more during the Sunday service that took place after the shooting.
Another problem we have right now is the new law legalizing same-sex marriage. People, mostly Christians, are so angry about this, but I don’t blame them. I think, instead of condemning the people, we should condemn the act and love the people. We should try and bring these people back to God. Maybe God wants us to seize the opportunity and try and bring more people to his fold, especially those who have strayed away from him.
But why don’t we love others? Why are there so many wars going on in the world? Why can’t we even get along with those in our own neighborhoods or families? Why can we not love those who are different from us? Why must one race oppress the other? You see, it isn’t just a matter of telling people they ought to love others. If that were all it took, we would be at peace already.
No, our problem is far deeper. Our problem is within ourselves -- within our own hearts and minds. Jesus said, “For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts” (Mark 7:21). That is why we don’t just need good advice. Instead, we need to be converted -- to be changed on the inside. That is why we need God. Only He can take away our selfishness, pride, and greed and replace them with His love and mercy.
And this can happen as we open our hearts and minds to Christ. God loves us, and He wants to transform us from within. And He will, as we turn from our sins and invite Christ to come into our lives. Don’t be content with anything less than Him.
We need the love of God in this world. We need to spread the love of God to people. Instead of being angry and full of hate, we should bring love. There is so much violence, hate, wickedness, poverty, and racism. Change someone’s day by being more caring, friendly, and nice to them. Bring a smile to someone today. Help someone weak today, go out of your way and spread the word of God by showing love and care to them. There are a lot of poor people out there who do not just need your money, they also need to hear your kind words. Some of them might even need God, and it is our duty as Christians to spread the word of God. Love is one way I know we can do that.
"Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love." -- 1 John 4:8
