Being a junior at Penn State, I've come to develop my favorite spots to eat downtown. If you've ever been to Happy Valley you know there are rows and rows of shops and restaurants, all with a unique atmosphere and all worth trying. So, with only so many semesters left here, I've made it my mission to try out as many places here I can instead of just frequenting the same places over and over.
This week the spotlight is on Pita Cabana Grill, a Lebanese Mediterranean restaurant located on East Calder Way next to Bagel Crust and around the corner from Chipotle. Here, there are offerings of appetizers, pitas, salads, soups, sandwiches and desserts, with a listing of several special dishes in addition to a "make your own" option.
Food options include a variety of proteins and ingredients to add to a salad, pita or sandwich, such as rice, fresh salsa, mixes of things such as red cabbage, onion and carrots marinated in spices and more. Dishes can be topped off with one of their many unique sauces, such as chipotle, tahini or garlic mayo.
And for my vegetarians out there, you're taken care of too. The "make your own" option is a quick and easy way to pick all the things you want and they also have falafels!
If you're looking to try something new, or want to experience a cultural dish, Pita Cabana is the place to go. My customized salad consisted of lettuce, roasted chicken, fresh salsa, an onion mixture, the red cabbage mixture, and chipotle hot sauce on top. I felt like I could breathe fire by the end of it, but I just like everything super spicy.
And as if things couldn't get any better, Pita Cabana Grill delivers! Find them on Order Up. They also make food for pickup, in addition to having plentiful room inside and outside of their restaurant. Being one block back from campus, it's a quick and tasty place to grab a bite!
