Sports photography can be challenging, especially if you don't have much experience of shooting action. So, from an amateur to other, here's a few tips to improve your photos:
1. Practice, practice, practice.
Not only the athletes you are photographing are required to train to get better. It's your job to learn how to get the best moments on camera by shooting the wrong ones.
2. Don't put your camera down.
Your arms are going to hurt and you're going to get tired of following everything through your lens, but don't give up. The best moments tend to always happen when you're not looking. The best sports photographs I ever took are the ones I waited until the end of the game to get.
3. Study.
Know the sport you're going to photograph. The hardest thing about sports photography is to anticipate the action. If you don't understand the game, chances are you are not going to be able to predict the next play; therefore, harder it will be to position yourself and focus your lens at the right location.
4. Learn to control your emotions, but know it's okay to have fun.
Many times you will have to restrain your excitment or frustration over the game, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the match. Learn to have fun watching the game through your lens instead. I guarantee you won't ever get bored.
