So, here we have it, the Super Bowl….
It goes without saying that it was an absolutely incredible year in sports. The Bama-Crimson game… well, you guys know what happened. I can’t talk about it. Then the 2016 NCAA Championship game, the last second shot to seal the deal. Then there’s the Game 7 Championship in the NBA. And who can forget the Cubs…
Different sports, same feeling.
After watching the last couple of minutes of each of these title games (Except for Bama, I can’t watch that again), I still get that feeling, the chills. Even after a year has passed, the shiver runs through my body. The intense adrenaline still hits when I re-watch UNC tying the game with 4 seconds to spare, or that last inning of the MLB World Series. Heck, I still get that feeling when I replay some of Aaron Rodger’s hail Marys.
Does anyone else get that feeling? Does anyone else have that intense rush go through them when something huge happens on your TV screen, or even better, right before your eyes? Or how about remembering exactly where you were when a certain game was on TV. Remembering that exact moment when one of the teams won. For example, I can never forget that exact moment when Maine Endwell won the Little League World Series and I was there, with my family, to witness it. I still watch that video every now and then, and the chills run through my body as I remember the joy that crowd was feeling. Incredible.
That’s love.
Like in my previous article, sports can mean so much to someone, and give them that everyday passion for something. And title games are even better. For something as big as the Super Bowl, all of a sudden, the entire country is watching, better yet, the world. There are millions upon millions of people gathered in front of their televisions just to watch a title game…isn’t that something? Who would have thought something that means so much to those guys on the field, could also mean so much to millions across the entire planet? I sure didn’t. When you really think about it, this game of football connects people in a way. On Twitter, for example, you have people, certain plays, calls, disputes, etc., trending constantly. From one angle, it’s like all of these people, fans of one team or the other, are joining together to talk about one common interest, football.
I love when there are title games because I feel a connection with every other sports-lover out there. I love when I see people arguing calls on Twitter, or posting their views on Facebook. It brings me joy to see people have as much passion for a game as I do, and to see their opinions on teams and coaches and play-calls.
This article was shorter and I intended for it to be. It’s a metaphor. Short and sweet, short and simple. The love for something is simple. No need to make things complicated. I see love, love for anything, very black and white. You either love it or you don’t. There’s no in between.
