It’s that time of year again. The leaves are falling from trees and the crisp, autumn air is blowing across people’s faces. It’s about that time where America’s favorite sports, such as basketball, football, and hockey are back in full swing. Sports fans can finally come out of hibernation and wear their hometown jerseys, tailgate, and cheer to their hearts’ content. When they come into the arena, fans can smell the aroma of fresh popcorn and nacho cheese while holding their tickets in their hands like they are attempting to win some sort of lottery. Millions of people will be watching these events from the tip-off to the final buzzer. Fans will be at the edge of their seats, holding their breath, hoping and praying that their team will come out victorious. The beginning of a brand new season is the most exciting time to celebrate and cheer for your hometown team. So let the games begin!!!
The main sport that millions of sports fans are talking about is both college and professional football. The first week of college football was sensational with multiple upsets from the Texas over Norte Dame and Houston over Oklahoma. These types of games gives some sort of indicator that it is anybody’s game when it comes to the college football season. I’m actually waiting for the rematch with Clemson and Alabama. There will be a different winner this year. With the NFL, the regular season started on Thursday, September 8 with the Superbowl rematch between the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos. The Broncos again were victorious against the Panthers with a 20-21 win, and are looking for another Superbowl win with their new quarterback, Trevor Siemian.
Coming in October is college and professional basketball. Colleges have just recruited their freshman and are ready to take down their opponents on the hardware floor. As the season begins, college basketball fanatics will already start predicting teams to be on their brackets for March Madness. March Madness is a tournament that begins at the end of the season. Villanova hopes to win this season again similar to what they did last year when their backs were against the wall against North Carolina. In the NBA, the top story continues with the Golden State Warriors’ starting five attempting to usurp LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. I predict that the Warriors will win the championship this year, but I am looking forward to the Orlando Magic actually getting a playoff spot since 2012. However, the finals results will be very predictable.
Overall, the beginnings of the sports seasons are the greatest, because it leaves sports fans in suspense and provides an accurate indicator of how your favorite team is going to play, and how good they are going to be throughout the rest of the season. Everyone wants their favorite team to bring home a championship, and increase their fan base in order to continue their team’s success. They want to be the best team in the entire nation. Whether you are watching football or basketball, enjoy the game. Cheer your team on. But don’t get too carried away.
