Okay, so maybe I already made a playlist of songs to beckon this current season. However, this playlist will be very different because it is now October. Halloween is quickly approaching and that means spooky music is now officially welcomed. Although, if you are anything like me then this music is played all year round to try and feel the sense of wonder that only seems to appear during Autumn. October is a time for crunching leaves, picking out pumpkins, and drinking hot chocolate. Not quite sure where you are when reading this but where I am it is still hot and humid on a daily basis. Lots of people love the warmth but I am not one of those people. It's October! This is the last month that everyone will be celebrating Autumn because more and more people begin preparing for Christmas right after Halloween. That means that I want as much time as I can get my greedy hands on for wearing sweaters, eating pumpkin pie, and stacking the blankets. Yet I am continuing to be forced to wear dresses and drink iced coffee while sweating anytime I go outside for more than five minutes. Maybe for some that doesn't sound like a bad thing, and in ways it isn't, but I am so over this heat. This playlist includes only 11 songs of my ever growing collection of seasonal music that I wanted to share with every one of my fellow Autumn lovers. Maybe this playlist will get me, and even you, in the mood for this upcoming holiday.
1. I Put a Spell on You // Hocus Pocus
Not an October goes by that I don't listen to this song on repeat. As well, the version performed by Nina Simone is a treat but it doesn't touch the magic that this version has on making every day feel like Halloween.
2. Black Magic Woman // Fleetwood Mac
Fleetwood Mac has always given me witchy vibes, anyone else feel that? Though I myself do not engage in any sort of questionable activities, nothing says Halloween quite like black magic.
3. Season of the Witch // Donovan
Another song that is heard a lot at Halloween parties but most people don't know the name of the artist or the song. So here you go, enjoy this Halloween gem as well as the video which helps to add a bit more spooky vibes.
4. Pyscho Killer // The Talking Heads
Even the name of this band sounds like it belongs in a Halloween movie. Not a song that everyone might like, but it's a catchy song that is great for any festive celebration to get in the right mood.
5. Thriller // Michael Jackson
Honestly, you can't celebrate Halloween without blasting this song. And if you are having a Halloween party, this is definitely a must. Extra points if you know all of the dance moves!
6. The Ghost Inside // Broken Bells
With a haunting sound and strangely fitting video, this song is perfect to start the spooky vibes of any party during this time of year.
7. In Dark Trees // Brian Eno
With a video that appears it could be scenes out of The Blair Witch Project, this song doesn't have any lyrics. The slow and mystical music will entrance any person willing to take the time to listen.
8. Time Warp // The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Any lover of Halloween has to at least know of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Sadly, I have never attended a live showing but that is most definitely one of the things at the top of my bucket list. However, every year I am able to find a way to watch the film and this song is a cult classic for good reason.
9. Little Ghost // The White Stripes
As part of the soundtrack from Paranorman (highly recommended movie, by the way), this song is a bit silly and more upbeat than most on this list. It's a very fun and catchy tune to enjoy.
10. Creep // Radiohead
As with my last playlist, I feel that you can't make an autumnal or haunting playlist without including Radiohead. Their breakthrough hit is always especially relevant when Halloween rolls around.
11. This is Halloween // The Nightmare Before Christmas
My love for Halloween has stems reaching back to this film. Tim Burton knows what he's doing so the opening song for this movie can make even the most hot summer days bring a sense of that autumnal magic.
Making this playlist allowed me to feel a lot more of the Halloween wonder that I felt I was missing on these hot days. Hopefully, the weather will take a turn and everything will feel more festive before breaking out the Christmas tree. October has just begun so let's all enjoy this beautiful time of year while stuffing our faces with candy and breaking out the witches broom while it is still seasonably acceptable.
