Spontaneity is a good thing to have in life. With spontaneity, your life will never get boring. When you’re older, you’re not gonna remember all the tests and quizzes you spent all night studying for. Instead, you’ll remember the time you and your boys or girls went out and had a night full of fun and debauchery.
This past semester, I got a text one Sunday night and it changed my life. It said, “You wanna go to Chicago?” Chicago is five hours away from campus. It was eight at night and at best, we would not leave until 10 – which would make the arrival time around 3 a.m. The last time I’ve been to Chicago was when I was 10. So I, of course, said yes. To this date, I can say with full confidence that this trip was the best and worst decision I have ever made in my life.
If you follow my blog, you would already know all about my trip. It started off as only a one-day thing, but it eventually turned into a three-day affair. Choices were made that cannot be taken back, but I, and the rest of my friends do not regret one single thing about it.
These kinds of random adventures are the best way to find out who a person really is. By seeing how they act in an unknown environment, which, by the way, is the best way to bond with someone. You can all go through life learning together as a team.
You never know when life might throw you a curveball, you just need to take it in stride and keep on trucking. Don’t be afraid to say yes. That cute barista working at Starbucks. Go and ask for their number. The horseback riding class? Take it. Go downtown and enjoy the night. Live your life with no regrets and when you make a decision, don’t do it halfheartedly – put everything into it. One of my life mottos is to make the decision that will make for a better story.
When you are older, with a big ole' family, you don’t want your kids to think you lived a boring life. Regale them with all the things you did when you were younger, where it was still okay to make mistakes. So don’t just sit there and do nothing, get up, and get out there. Live a little. Go get em', tiger.
