What is poetry? Is it just a sequence of words that rhyme? Poetry can often have little overview in the education curriculum these days because it doesn't seem as important as other writing skills. However, I believe that learning how to write poetry is a necessity for writing and comprehension skills. Poetry has been used for ages to tell stories and pass down important lessons and values. Poetry teaches how to express thoughts and feelings in a simple, metaphorical, and beautiful way. Poetry can be a tool to allow a child, or anyone, the freedom to express their thoughts that they don't verbally speak for whatever reason.

A poet can tell a story through a variety of stanzas that connects to the human emotion; whether it's a painful experience, a joyful or grieving one, or maybe the author wants to send a message to the world. Poetry is a way for a writer to share their experiences with others.

For me, poetry has always been easier to write my thoughts. Sometimes it rhymes and sometimes it does not. Some poems I immediately share with someone or post it on my blog, but there are several poems that remain closed in my journal or in a word document in my computer for my eyes only. Every poem is different, and every poets style is distinctive and beautiful. Poetry are the lyrics of a song. Poetry inspires people.

I am often inspired to write poetry when I am praying or reading my Bible. Whether it's an inspiration from a revelation, from a joyful, overwhelmed heart or from a hurting heart, I find that God speaks to me through writing truth in a prose. (Which is probably why I love the book of Psalms in the Old Testament.) Below is an original poem I wrote in my prayer journal a year ago about my relationship with my patient and loving Father.

From the first moment I believed,
I knew you cared for me.
I was just a little girl,
I knew you were bigger than this world.
I felt safe in your arms,
You kept me safe from harm.
Trusting you was all I needed to do!

You've been there all this time
Just waiting for me to surrender.
You're so patient and so kind,
How could I've been so blind?
Your love beckons me to surrender,
To trust you like I did before.
Father, help me trust you more!

As I got older, trusting you was harder.
I tried seeking love in other things,
But that didn't stop you from pursuing me.
I fell and I bruised,
But you still came down and wiped it all away,
And I found myself in your arms again.
Trusting you was all I needed to do!

I'm a woman now
and I am still learning how,
to trust you with everything.
Even when I couldn't see,
You've never abandoned me.
Trusting you is all I need to do!

I have walked so far
with you leading me into your arms.

How wonderful it is to be with you,

Trusting you is all I need to do!

I've come to the place,
There's nothing else I really need
but where you areleading me.
Your grace is like a flood,
Oh, how amazing is your love!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
