You know why I'm here...My grades, where they at?
Winter break should be a time to relax and rehabilitate from the stress of last semester, and prepare for next semester. However, less than a week into winter break and AUC students patiently wait for final grades. Waiting for the outcome of sleepless nights, procrastination, cramming, and months of endless hard work. Some found solace in library aisles and the grease stryrofoam containers in order to prepare for final papers, presentations, or exams. Finding any means necessary to make a 75 a passing grade. Seniors stressing to make sure we pass with honors and freshman stressing just to survive. Either way the outcome are final grades; the grade which determines pass or fail, honors tassel or no honors tassel.
1. Anger: "grades with -'s are stupid. What's an A-...minus what? I got an A. "
2. Denial:
3. Bargaining:
4. Depression:
5. Acceptance:
According to USA Today, (McMullen, L) there are three ways to overcome a bad grade or at least understand a bad grade.
1. Don't cram, take time to study little by little throughout the semester to ensure you understand the material, and stay organized to ensure you don't get swamped throughout the semester.
According to the article 8 Things That Cause College Stress (And How to Get Rid of It) give your self encouragement and support. The most important thing to remember is that "it's not about the grade but the quality." When looking at final grades think "was my work average, above average, or exemplary?" If you realize that perhaps your work was average or below average, remember there's always next semester. So while on break don't stress about your grades, simply prepare to maintain or improve the following semester. For it is not about the grade but the quality you put towards the grade. Like my mother always says "if you did your best that's all you can ask for." What's better a car that sails along without any problems or a car that is smoking a put-putting along? Both will get you there but one may get you there just a tad bit more safely.
