A teacher is a crucial piece of the development of each and every human. A teacher is a person who sparks inspiration, learning, and creativity. The old saying goes: "Those who can, do; those who can't, teach." It's something I've heard growing up in movies, comedy shows, and philosophical conversations. However, although the phrase might seem a little catchy, I must disagree.
A teacher is a role model. A teacher is someone students can depend on. A teacher is a safe haven when the rest of the world seems a little terrifying. A teacher is a friendly smile, a happy thought, an inspirational push in the right direction. Without teachers, our world would be duller and dumber.
You see, I disagree with the old saying previously mentioned because it insinuates the teacher isn't good enough. In fact, it insinuates the teacher was so bad, teaching was their only option. Teachers cannot be the worst or else their teachings would be pointless. Teaching is the best thing a person could decide to do with their knowledge and talents.
I want to be a teacher to advocate for students when they have nobody else to advocate for them. I was to guide students down the path of life. I want to always be around to lend a helping hand and kind words when they are most needed. I want to be a teacher because I want to inspire hundreds and thousands of people and be the spark that could change the world. I want to be a teacher because, for once in my life, I have the opportunity to decide what to do with myself and the best thing I could have ever decided to do is teach. Remember that old saying? I'd like to rephrase it to: "Those who can, do; Those who can do better, teach," and teach I will.
