2000's Song Throwbacks

The 2000's were a music era that many cannot forget, but then again, why would you even want to try? Here are some songs that most likely were your "most-listened to" during the 2000's. And do not even try to pretend you do not belt out all the lyrics flawlessly every time these come back on. Who doesn't love a good throwback?

1. "Say My Name" – Destiny's Child

"Say my name, say my name, when no one is around you, say baby I love you," should bring back some very sassy memories. If you did not pretend to be Destiny's Child dissing your good-for-nothing man, you did not do your childhood correctly.

2. "The Middle" – Jimmy Eat World

This song perfectly described your angsty adolescent feelings, and you can not even begin to deny it. Chances are you may have been singing this song so intensely that you ripped the gel off of your hairbrush microphone.

3. "Beverly Hills" – Weezer

"Beverly Hills" is the song that every tourist still to this very day quotes when they actually travel to Beverly Hills. But in the 2000's, not only did this song make you want to be part of 90210, but it also made you realize you cannot locate Beverly Hills on a map.

4. "Stacy's Mom" – Fountains of Wayne

If you spent hours wondering what made Stacy's Mom so great, you are probably part of the majority. We all sympathized with Stacy and then began to wonder if our middle-school boyfriends secretly only came over to see our mom.

5. "Irreplaceable" – Beyonce

"You must not know 'bout me" was the ultimate line to throw shade back in the 2000's, and if you didn't use it, you clearly missed out. You knew exactly what to do if you ever caught your man cheating, but at this point, your entire romantic life involved passing notes that said, "Check yes if you like me."

6. "Hollaback Girl" – Gwen Stefani

If you didn't make a music video to this with your best friend, chances are your parents put a content restriction on your iTunes account. "B-A-N-A-N-A-S"

7. "1985" – Bowling for Soup

This was the song everyone knew all the words to but completely missed every single reference, because it was about a time that happened a decade before I was even born. "When did Motley Crue become classic rock?" I wouldn't know; I wasn't even alive.

8. "In Da Club" – 50 Cent

"We gonna party like it's your birthday, sip Bacardi like it's your birthday." Shoutout to everyone who had no idea what Bacardi was, even though you went all out to this song at every single seventh-grade dance.

9. "Bye Bye Bye" – N Sync

Not only did you know the dance to this song, but you also imagined doing that dance with your favorite member of N Sync--Justin (if it wasn't Justin you were just wrong; okay, maybe Joey, but anyone else and you are just unjustified.)

10. "Milkshake" – Kelis

Where is the yard? And was the milkshake chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry? Those are my only questions.

11. "Hips Don't Lie" – Shakira

This song was the one that your mom wasn't sure she wanted you to listen to because it was just "a little too sexy," but you would secretly lock your door and try to learn how to move your hips like Shakira does.

12. "Kiss Me Thru The Phone" – Soulja Boy

"678-999-8212"--stop lying and acting like you didn't call that number and get the Soulja Boy Hotline. Also, throwback to when they created an iPhone app based off this song.

13. "Hey Ya!" – OutKast

"Heyyyyy yaaaaaaaa"

14. "Since U Been Gone" – Kelly Clarkson

This song is what developed your love for the "American Idol" winner. This was another angsty song that you couldn't help but belt out when it came on the radio (aux cords were not a thing back then – think about it).

15. "Forever" – Chris Brown

When this song came on at the middle-school dance, you stood there awkwardly in your hot-pink zebra-print dress waiting for your crush to come uncomfortably slow dance with you--oh, just me?

16. "Who Let the Dog's Out" – Baha Men

This song was on at every single basketball, football, soccer, and baseball game you ever attended. How someone made so much money on a song about opening up a dog crate, I will never know.

17. "Kryptonite" – 3 Doors Down

Another song that you knew all the words to but had no idea of the meaning behind. "If I go crazy then will you still call me Superman?"

18. "Ignition (Remix)" – R. Kelly

"Must be a football coach the way you got me playing the field." Because absolutely none of us had any idea this song was inappropriate at the time. Innocence is bliss, apparently.

19. "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" – Eiffel 65

While this song may be incredibly annoying, you cannot help but sing along even when it is played today. Also, if this does not make you think about "Big Fat Liar," you were clearly not raised on the right Disney Channel movies.

20. "It Wasn’t Me" – Shaggy

If you had any idea what the Jamaican man was saying, then you deserve a medal.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
