South Alabama? Who? That's right, South Alabama upset Mississippi State in their first football game of the season on Sept 3. The final score was 21-20.
The team didn't start out great. The first quarter score was 7-0, MSU, and the second quarter score was 10-0, MSU. South Alabama had one fumble, two punts, and a missed field goal in the first half.
The second half went much better. They were able to score in the first drive of the second half with a touchdown pass from Dallas Davis to Josh Magee, making it 17-7, MSU. There wasn't another score until the fourth quarter. The next score in the game was a field goal made by MSU kicker, Westin Graves. This made it 20-7, MSU.
In the fourth quarter, South Alabama scored two touchdowns, one was a pass to Gerald Everett, and the other was a run by Tyreis Thomas. MSU had the ball at the end of the fourth quarter with a chance to kick a field goal and win the game, but Graves missed it, making the final score 21-20, South Alabama.
This was South Alabama's first ever SEC win, and with the confidence they probably have now, I bet they keep winning their big games. The next game they play will be against Georgia Southern at home, and their next "big game" is against San Diego State. I am confident in their talent, and I am interested in what they have to bring to the table.
