Fall is in the air, and so is the underlying aroma of stress. Everyone is stressed out, everyone has a million things, late to stuff, taking on new things, and quitting of things. So many choices and everyone is doing all of them. let me repeat, EVERYONE is doing all of them. That's right, everyone is busy and though you may feel like Dodie, who you may remember from one of my earlier articles and also my recent Youtube obsession, as she says at about 1:30 everyone is busy and it's okay.
I love this time of year don't get me wrong, and I am one of "those people" that actually loves being busy and having things to do. Being one of these people I know find myself being a full time student, stage managing two shows, applying to grad schools, the Editor in Chief for this Odyssey community, making a slideshow for my brothers wedding, helping my mom plan some of the events for my brothers wedding, head of recruitment alumni and fundraising for my sorority, the pledge educator for my sorority, on the campus activities board, and president of Art Club. This past weekend I also partook in an annual event at my school the 24-Hour Theater Project where writers coming at 8 PM on a Friday and 24 hours later at 8 PM on Saturday we put on a show of six to ten short skits that were written the night before. Let me remind you after reading that list, I love being busy. I understand some people don't like being busy and wouldn't be able to juggle as many things as I am juggling at the moment, but what can be frustrating about hearing the excuse "I'm just so busy" is that that makes it sound like the person saying this didn't choose to be as busy as they are. I get it, sometimes some of the things that take up you're time you actually didn't sign up for it happens, but the things you did sign up for you did because you felt you were able to handle it.
For me personally I know I work best if I write the times of everything I have in a month in my calendar at the beginning of the month, and from then on I take things day by day making sure to have at least an hour to prepare for the following day. If something doesn't get done because I got caught up with other things, although you might hear me say " I've been busy" its never my sole answer for why something didn't happen. It's a very vague statement that can mean literally anything. If you do find yourself feeling overwhelmed with everything going on in your life take some pointers from Dodie's video, it's not a sure fire way to solve all your problems but it can probably help make them more manageable. Also take time to know where your limits are, there is no shame in how high or low your limit is before you feel like its too much. You do you, and life should fall into place.
