When most people think of 'sorority girls,' they usually think of the stereotype they see in movies. The girls in these movies are typically bratty, dressed in designer clothes, and self-obsessed.
Since people are so used to these stereotypes, they immediately start to make judgments about me when I tell them that I'm in a sorority. But, the truth is: I'm not that typical 'sorority girl.'
I have unique hobbies.
Most people think that sorority girls are just huge partiers -- but I'm not. I like to spend my free time reading, writing, fishing, and bowling. Surprising, right?
I spend a lot of time doing philanthropy.
Philanthropy, or service work, is actually a huge part of my sorority. It keeps my sisters and I involved in the community and gives us a great way to give back to organizations that have helped us over the years.
I have a full-time job.
I don't actually spend all of my time hanging out with my sisters (even though I wish I could). I spend most of my time at work trying to make money so I can pay my college tuition and monthly bills.
I love all of my sisters unconditionally.
When I joined my sorority, my sisters became my family. I got to know each and every one of them on a personal level and now they're some of my very favorite people. I would do anything for them, and I hope they know that.
So, yes, I'm in a sorority. But, no, I'm not a 'sorority girl.' Before making assumptions about me, get to know me and you might be surprised!
