You might have seen a banner or t-shirt around campus welcoming the newest sorority to Miami's Campus, Phi Sigma Sigma. That name might sound unfamiliar because Phi Sig was just chartered this semester. But with an awesome founding pledge class, these ladies are eager to jump right in to the Greek Community.
Phi Sigma Sigma was added to accommodate the exponential rate of growth for Greek Life on campus. By adding another sorority, more undergraduate ladies will get the opportunity to be affiliated with a Panhellenic sorority. This is an obviously great step taken by Miami, and a great reflection of the positive impact of Greek Life.
Chartering a chapter is no easy task. I'm sure we all saw the reps from their national headquarters around campus at the beginning of the year. They are here all semester to help these ladies get their foot in the door.
About a month ago, Phi Sigma Sigma at Miami University had their first official bid day. On this day they welcomed 40 new members.
But not just any new members.
These ladies are know as "The Fall 40". They are Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors who are now the founders of Phi Sigma Sigma at Miami.
Alanna Kuether says, "I've always known I wanted to be in a sorority, but none here felt like quite the right fit. When I found out about Phi Sig and talked to the girls here, I knew this was where I belonged! I have a chance most girls don't get [...] the ability to start from the beginning and make our way into this crazy Greek world!"
The Fall 40 have plunged right in to Greek Life at Miami. Every week they have a new "Rose Buddy," a sister they can get to know better and hang out with. They already have taken a sisterhood trip to Butterfield Farms, a Miami sorority staple. Along with that, they have also had craft nights, socials and have an upcoming crush party.
So here's the run down:
Their nickname is "Phi Sig".
Phi Sigma Sigma has over 100 active chapters all over the country.
The Miami chapter of Phi Sig is the Iota Tau chapter, and now the third active chapter in Ohio along with Capital University and the University of Findley.
In January, they are planning to take in 160 new members.
Their main philanthropy is the PhiSigmaSigma foundation which helps disadvantaged children with their schooling and getting the supplies they need to succeed, along with dedicating time to a local cause.
Their suite is located in Minnich Hall.
Although these ladies are the new kids on the quad, they are motivated, bright and ready to take campus by storm. Look out for the girls in yellow and blue because these ladies rock.
