Sorority Rush As Told By The Presidential Election

The Presidential race stirred up a lot of controversy... and a lot of memes. When Hillary was basically offered a bid then got cut on Pref, I started to realize how much alike sorority rush and the presidential race are. I mean, one determines the leader of the free world and the other is flirting with girls for 12 hours straight, but just stick with me here, ok?

1. The week begins and you literally have no idea what to expect.

2. The moment the door of your first house opens, you learn what exactly a "door stack" is.

3. You make it through the first house and think "that really wasn't so bad."

4. You have so much energy at the beginning of the day, but by the eighth house you have determined death is very near.

5. At the end of the day, you realize you don't know how to NOT smile anymore.

6. On philanthropy day, you try to have a deep and meaningful conversation with someone you just met LITERALLY three minutes ago.

7. You've talked about where you're from. At least five times. Within an hour.

8. By the third day, you're so thankful to watch a house's skit because for like 15 minutes you DON'T HAVE TO TALK.

9. You desperately try to hold yourself together on Pref because you aren't wearing waterproof mascara and your potential sisters CANNOT see the face you make when you cry.

10. You get suddenly nervous to open your bid card and go through every potential reason there might be for you to get cut.

11. You, literally seconds before opening your bid card.

12. You finally run to your favorite house on bid day.

13. You get too excited when you try to throw your new sign and it ends up like this.

14. But it's ok because you'll still get mad likes on your bid day Insta and you just gained like 150 best friends.

See, I totally had a point there.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
