Recruitment is definitely an experience, but a great one. Here are five things I wish I knew before I joined the Greek life community.

Express Your Own Style

During every round of recruitment, you will be asked to dress with professionalism and it becomes fancier every day you're there. It is extremely important to feel comfortable in what you are wearing. The right sorority will accept you no matter the style you present, but make sure it fits within the professional guidelines.

Keep An Open Mind

Some sororities may surprise you in all that they have to offer. It is perfectly fine to not know anything about greek life beforehand... it can even make the process more fun! Pay attention to the bigger picture... if you feel comfortable and happy, that is the place for you.

It Is OK To Be Hesitant

Decisions about which houses to cut on your list can be extremely difficult. You may love different people from each sorority but realize that certain houses as a whole are not for you. They won't hate you afterward, they'll likely still want you in their life.

You Will Become Great In Interviews

After many rounds of conversations and answering questions, you will likely get better in your interview skills. It will truly show you what you value most in your life and you will become even more confident in who you are. Even if you are not loving a house you're talking to, still, maintain a positive attitude and realize it is just more interview practice.

Take Care Of Yourself

This can be an extremely stressful time and can hurt your body if you're not careful. Making sure you obtain enough sleep, eating healthy and resting your voice when you can all help in preventing illness and negativity. Talking to your group leaders can also help with anxiety or unhappy emotions.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
