It is that time of the year that every sorority girl loves and hates. It is a week full of laughter, tears, and numerous chants that you will begin singing in your sleep. You spend every sleepless hour with your sisters while you fan girl and obsess over your rush crush. When joining a sorority no one really knows how much work the active members put into welcoming new sisters.
This is one of our favorite weeks of the year, which many of us will compare to Christmas. We get to spend the majority of the next five to six days together that will probably not happen as a whole chapter until next recruitment. You bond so much and grow closer to each other that makes the chapter stronger.
When your recruitment chair walks into the first practice. She’s in charge. And even though you’ve known her forever you’re still slightly terrified.
Polish Week. Polish week can be a great time to bond with your sisters over how little you’ve eaten/slept/thought about anything other then recruitment, but it’s also the most exhausting and stressful week of your life besides recruitment week and exams.
You have small-talked your way through 5 groups of PNMS and you still have one more. You are tired of having the same conversations with every PNM you meet.
Trying to explain Big/Little. It’s a strange concept to PNM’s who don’t know as much about greek life coming in. Are they your mentor? Your best friend?
Trying to persuade a PNM into choosing your sorority, but still trying to be low-key about it. You love everything about her. You want her to be your sister. You cannot be without her.
When a sister slips and talks "We." "We can't wait to see you tomorrow."
Trying to eat a quick snack between parties. Something about having to stay awake and talking hours on end makes you hungry every 5 seconds.
When all that is left is preference party. Thank god. I can finally get some sleep tonight.
The week is finally wrapping up, but you still have to stay three extra hours having discussions and all you want to do is lay in your bed. You have not slept in the past 48 hours and to lay down.
Bid Day is finally here! You are finally gaining some new sisters that you have been waiting for the past year.
The week is finally over and you could not be happier! You can finally relax and take a breather. You are mostly excited for all your new sisters but also to sleep the next few days.
All in all, between school and no sleep, recruitment is one of roughest weeks of the year; but ask any Panhellenic woman, we would not trade this week of bonding for world.
