How Sorority Women Are Basically Just Collegiate Girl Scouts

Girl Scouts was just the pregame

When we look back at our elementary and middle school days and compare them to our collegiate years, there aren't a lot of similarities, but when it comes down to it being a Girl Scout was really just the pregame for being in a sorority.

We have a specific way we identify ourselves

Eta chapter is our identifier now just as Troop 2237 was our identifier when we were 10.

Just as we have our favorite fraternities we had our favorite Boy Scout Troops

Troop 628 is the then equivalent of Chi Phi

You attend secret meetings

Girl Scout meetings=Chapter.

You have a pin attire to wear to those secret meetings

Whether it's nice dresses and pins or green vests and badges, you are still expected to be dressed a certain way.

You have pins

And even years down the road, they'll never lose their meaning.

You have a hand sign

Throw what you know!

You have something that you recite at the beginning of aforementioned secret meeting

Who could ever forget "On my honor, I will try..." those words and the words to our sorority creeds will be burned into our brains forever.

You take philanthropy and fundraising very seriously

Whether it's Girl Scout Cookies season or fundraising for Service for Sight, Make a Wish, or anything else, it will be your top priority for the duration of your time in the organization.

You put your logo on everything

Everyone wants their logo and their letters on everything they own

Arts are crafts are a big deal

Whether it's making posters and scones for around the world or painting a formal cooler, our crafting skills are amazing.

Girl Scout Camp and New Member Retreat are basically the same thing

If you were lucky, your sorority took the new members somewhere really fun for your retreat, like ziplining or camping, just like in Girl Scout Camp.

You like dressing up for themes

Theme parties are some of your favorite times with friends. When your 9 the parties are father/daughter dances, when you're 19 they're swaps.

Bridging ceremonies are just like initiation

The move from Daisy to Brownie to Junior to Cadet mirrors the move from PNM to New Member to Active to Alum

Songs.

"Make new friends but keep the old" would be a great pref night song.

History

As a Girl Scout and a sorority woman you know the ins and outs of how and where you were founded, everything about your founder, and all of the details of your history. It's what makes your organization unique and you love to know everything you can.

Once you're a part of it, you're a part of it for life

You can take the girl out of the sorority (or Girl Scout troop) but you can't take the sorority out of the girl.

You'll always be sisters

A sister to me is...

The 5 Painfully True Stages Of Camping Out At The Library

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
