Goodbye Sophomore year of college

Dear Sophomore year,

You were the hardest year of my life. You made me cry a lot. I was tired 90% of the time. I ate wayyyyy too much Ramen. I usually had like $4 because what is a job when you have 4 or 5 tests every week?

I lost a lot of “friends” this year. I gained some weight this year. My hair grew a little this year. I think I might have grown from 5’2 to 5’3 this year??? I became a 20-something-year-old this year and no longer a teenager. I failed a class this year. I changed my major this year. My car got totaled in my PARKING LOT of my apartment complex.

I went to a lot of football games and I watch Mississippi State’s women’s basketball team KICK ASS this year and win the SEC championship.

But most importantly, in my sophomore year of college, I have started to figure out who I am and the direction I want my future to be headed.

I’ve made incredible friends that I know for a fact will be standing by my side on my wedding day. My grades this spring have improved tremendously compared to what they were in the fall. I have not one, but two internships. Changing my major has helped me be able to see what I want to do after college easier. Also, I got a new car (thank you Dad)

With all this being said... Sophomore Year, thank you so much for the opportunities you’ve given me. You allowed me to become apart of an amazing organization in Greek life, where I honestly feel like I have been able to open up. I’ve gained a lot of comfidence in myself this year. I’ve gotten tougher this year. I wouldn’t trade this year for anything.

Freshman, just because this year didn’t go as planned doesn’t mean next year won’t be better. Other sophomores and upper-classmen, I hope you’re thriving and doing amazing.

My favorite Bible verse come from 2 Timothy 2:3 and it says “Endure hardness as a good Soldier if Jesus Christ”.

College is where we figure out who we are, what we want to do with our life, and what kind of person we want to be. So hardships are expected all throughout college, but they do get better

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
