Sony Entertainment is taking their music production to the next level, allowing royalties for artists to become more common with the 21st century of music production and mixing. With social media platforms from Facebook to Mixcloud, there are millions of musicians and DJ's that are using remixed samples of songs to devise new sounds. Quoted on Dubset's web page, Mark Ronson states, "We live in the post sampling era, we take things we love and build on them." This is exactly what the music era has created through various social media platforms. In order to allow artists to get the correct amount of royalties for pieces of work they created, Dubset has created MixBANK.
MixBANK is a platform created to merge the marketplace between artists, DJ's, labels, producers, and publishers so they are able to all earn royalties on the music that is being played online. The Dubset CEO Stephen White stated in TechCrunch , "700 million people are listening to mixed content every month… If rights holders don’t embrace a platform like us, the content is going to flow anyway and it’s going to flow around them." This means that money could have been earned for all the cultivators for each "play" on each platform. With new licensing agreements and some incredible technology, Dubset has created MixBANK, a way for each artist to create and build, while also being able to receive credit and earn together.
According to Dubset's website, "Our platform provides rights holders with new royalties, content control, full transparency, and unique usage reports." This will not only allow artists to create music in an entirely new manner, it will also allow unofficial music a chance to be streamed on platforms such as Apple, and Spotify, which would have initially been removed due to Copyright infringement. According to Dubset, "MixBANK dashboard provides fully transparent distribution & reporting. Our users have access to royalty data, analytics, and a set of tools that allow DJs, rights holders, and music services complete control of how, when, and where content is distributed."
While this may not be ideal for Soundcloud and Mixcloud, which have their own unique way of distributing unofficial remixes, but it will open up new doors to the way music is being listened to currently, allowing for DJ's to receive more transparency for their remixes. Sony, being one of the leading record labels, and music production lines will be revolutionizing the world of music one mix at a time. It is only a matter of time until the world of music production falls behind their lead.
