Google tells us that there are 70 to 80 million dogs owned in the U.S., and 37 percent to 47 percent of all households have a dog. Wow. That is a ton of dogs. But, I mean, who can blame us? Dogs are such wonderful pets to have. Not only are dogs loyal, loving, and fun, but they teach you a thing or two.
1. Stop and smell the roses.
We all know that feeling when you take your dog on a walk and they stop to sniff everything in sight, but they have a point. Life is short, so you might as well stop and smell the roses instead of shutting out world all the time. It's a good thing to slow down from our busy days and enjoy the little things.
2. Have some fun!
You are never too old to have some fun, so don't forget to make some time for it!
3. Go for a walk.
Get a move on and live a healthier, more active life!
4. Always greet your loved ones when they come home.
We all love to be greeted, and asked how are days are. Its a great feeling to come home and be appreciated, and dogs are just too good at loving on us when we do.
5. Be happy and stay positive.
6. Don't forget to take naps.
We all need them.
7. Cuddling is always an option.
8. It's not about the destination, but the journey.
"Want to go bye bye?" Yes, your dog wants to come, too. They don't really care where they end up, they just enjoy the ride and the journey that comes with it.
9. Don't hold grudges.
Dogs never stay mad if you forgot to take them on their walk, or if you lie about not having any more treats left. Be happy, and let go of your anger.
10. Never forget where you come from.
It's always a wonder how dogs find their way home. Just shows you to never forget where you come from.
11. Death is inevitable.
Sadly, our pets don't live forever, regardless if we wish they could or not. Having a pet teaches us that death is unavoidable and part of life.
13. Be friendly.
Dogs are (mostly) always nice and friendly to strangers. It doesn't matter what they look like, their age, or social standing -- dogs love everyone.
14. Keep learning.
Always push yourself to keep learning.
15. Love unconditionally
The main lesson dogs teach us, is to love. Love your neighbor, love your family, love the world. I have mad love for all dogs because of the unconditional love I have had from mine. They teach us how to love, and to never stop loving. Dogs don't care if you're a good person, or if you are in a low spot in your life. They love the best, and the worst of us. What would our world look like if we could love like that?
