It's March, which means it is also Women's History Month. Just like Black History Month, I believe that every day of every month should honor women; and a way to do so would, of course, be to respect, and treat women equally as men are treated on a daily basis. The fact that women around the globe are still being treated lesser than men is extremely upsetting. We are fighting just as hard as we were a hundred years ago!

Having employers and world leaders who are also sexist and misogynistic just make it harder for us to get treated the way we deserve to be treated. If there are sexist things being voiced by a certain president of a certain country that has a huge hole for a mouth and tries to pass off animal fur as their "real" hair makes you feel down, then maybe some music will help you feel better.

Here is my list of top eight songs that were created to uplift girls and women instead of putting us down!

1. "Respect" - Aretha Franklin

These demanding lyrics combined with Aretha Franklin's beautiful strong voice will assure any woman that she deserves nothing but respect!

2. "Strong Girl" - ONE Campagin

This song promotes the ONE Campaign. Some of Africa's most talented female singers were brought together to create a song that will empower girls to become leaders and to dream big no matter where they are from or where they are living.

3. "Mulheres Do Brasil" - Maria Bethania

This beautiful Brazilian song by Maria Bethania may be short, but its lyrics will definitely have an impact on you! This song talks about all women being sisters and being treated equally. From housewives, teachers, prostitutes, dancers and more, every woman deserves to be respected and treated fairly. Here is the English translation.

4. "I Did It" - Spica

This energetic and funky K-Pop song by the group Spica influences women to be who they want to be and do what they want to do, and to be proud of it! This song has powerful lyrics such as "Stand tall/ Real strong/ So let's go."

5. "Dog" - Mona Haydar (Ft. Jackie Cruz)

Mona Haydar and Jackie Cruz used this song to put men in their place! This song addresses the way many women are sexualized and abused by men. Bringing awareness to this is a starting point for putting an end to it!

6. "You Don't Own Me" - Joan Jett

I prefer Joan Jett's version of this song, but whether you are listening to this version, the original, or G-Eazy's version, this song will make any woman feel liberated and free.

7. "Keep Ya Head Up" - Tupac

This is legendary throwback song points out the obvious; and shows how hypocritical it is for men to treat women badly when if it weren't for us, they wouldn't even exist!

8. "Put Your Records On" - Corinne Bailey Rae

This light and lovely song by the talented Corinne Bailey Rae has inspirational lyrics that empower young girls to embrace themselves, and to be who they are!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
