There are just some days that seem kind of doom and gloom, and can drag down a mood. For me, music is my outlet. No matter what mood I'm in or what I'm feeling, I can typically find a song that either matches my mood or can lift me out of it. I like to listen to a variety of music genres, so I composed a list of a few of my favorite go-tos when I'm feeling down, emotional, bleh, or just in the need of a pick-me-up.
1. "My House" -- Flo Rida
2. "Help Our Souls" (Urban Contact Remix) -- Nihils
3. "Carry on Wayward Son" -- Kansas
Who (especially "Supernatural" fans) does not love this song? Between the underlying message to carry on and the guitar and drums, there is no way to not feel better after this song. (If you really want a pick-me-up, start watching/re-watching "Supernatural.")
4. "House Party" -- Sam Hunt
Sometimes you just need a good party song to feel better. I don't even need drinks, or anyone else, but the good vibes just seem to come through and touch my soul and immediately put me in a good mood.
5. "This Is How We Roll" -- Florida Georgia Line
6. "Shake It" -- Metro Station
This is an oldie but a goodie. Honestly, as I was creating this list, I was shocked to see this song because I had completely forgotten about it. But as I listened to it, I couldn't help sing along to it and just generally feel a little happier. Science has proven that singing releases endorphins in your body, known as "feel good" chemicals.
7. "Don't Stop Believin'" -- Journey
This is such a classic feel-good song. No matter where I am, what I'm doing, or how I feel, the moment I hear that first key, I am ready to belt out the lyrics.
8. "On Top of the World" -- Imagine Dragons
I think Imagine Dragons wrote this song solely to bring up people's spirits, and make everyone feel like they were No. 1 (I know that's what it does for me).
9. "Best Day Of My Life -- American Authors
10. "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" -- The Proclaimers
I don't know what is so great about this song, because if you actually listen to the words, it almost sounds like he is a stalker. But it is still such a great song. "How I Met Your Mother"fans have a special kind of love for this song, so I'm partially biased, but either way, I still think it is hilariously fun.
11. "Shake It Off" -- Taylor Swift
So the reason this song is on this list is because of the message. I can't count on my hands and toes how many times I've been put in a bad mood because of someone else (that's usually how it goes). Any time I really can't shake (sorry for the word choice) off my bad mood, I turn this song on and just remember that I am my own No. 1 fan, no one else (I also tend to dance around, which helps).
12. "GDFR" -- Flo Rida
13. "Uptown Funk" -- Mark Ronson
Reasons this song is one of the best: 1) Bruno Mars; 2) Saxophone. It seems to be a trend that I really don't know why some of these songs make me feel better, but this one just does it. I think it could be the rhythm, Bruno Mars' voice, and maybe the ease of singing this particular song.
14. "Kick the Dust Up" -- Luke Bryan
15. "Eye of the Tiger" -- Survivor
So these are in no particular order, but just some of my favorites. Obviously not all of these songs will work on everyone, but I think most people will recognize at least one of the songs on this list. I didn't include a little description on each song, simply because they don't need to be explained -- they just get the job done. If I listen to any of the songs on the list (and the more, the merrier I am), my mood typically takes a positive turn. I hope maybe next time you feel down or in need of a pick-me-up you will think of this article and maybe be able to refer to one of these songs and get what you need.
