Music has always been a huge part of my life. I remember the stereo always playing in my house when I was young, in fact it was probably on more than the TV. Words can't even begin to describe how therapeutic music is for me. If I'm struggling or having a bad day, I turn on music. If something super awesome has just happened in my life, I turn on music. Music just has a way of speaking to me, and sometimes for me. I always seem to figure out my life (kind of) in the middle of a good tune.

So, here are some songs that speak multitudes to me on good days and bad days. These songs have helped me through so much. Take a listen, I hope they speak to you, and maybe even help you.

1. "Happier" by Bastille

if the lyrics don't hit you in the feels the music video sure will. Not only does this song have a good beat but the lyrics are so meaningful and easy to reconcile with.

2. "God Bless This Mess" by Jillian Jacqueline

I just recently discovered this song and artist, and I LOVE her work. This particular song just really resonates with me. It helps me to remember that even if life doesn't always work out the way we plan it, that's okay, because God blesses us anyway.

3. "You Say" by Lauren Daigle

This song has such a special place in my heart. Lauren Daigle is an amazing artist, and her songs hit me so deep in the feels, because most of them talk about how God loves us right where we are. This song is beautiful because it compares the lies we tell ourselves to the truth that God tells us, which is that we are enough, just as we are. This song always picks me up when I'm down and restores my faith in myself and the life God has given me.

4. "The Night We Met" by Lord Huron ft. Pheobe Bridgers

First of all, Lord Huron is my absolute FAVORITE band. Their songs always have a way of calming me down, because the melody is so soft and calm. This song in particular has such meaningful words, all while being accompanied by a beautiful harmony between the band and Phoebe Bridgers. Take a listen. I'm willing to bet that you'll feel a bit more calm once you've finished listening to it.

5. "Springsteen" by Eric Church

If you want a good country-feeling song, then this one is for you. Not only to I love this song because of the melody and rhythm, but it is also the anthem of fiance and me. We plan to play this song for our first dance at our wedding next fall.

6. "La Belle Fleur Sauvage" by Lord Huron

Another great song by Lord Huron. This song was actually the very first song of theirs that I heard. I love this song, because it always, always, always calms me down. It also just makes me feel so good whenever I listen to it.

7. "The House That Built Me" by Miranda Lambert

Wow, the lyrics of this song are so meaningful--not only to Miranda, but to me as well. This song makes me think of my parents and all that they have done for me. They have truly raised me in a wonderful house and given me so many opportunities, so when Miranda sings, "If I could just come in I swear I'll leave / Won't take nothing but a memory / From the house that built me," it hits me right in the feels.

8. "Mess Is Mine" by Vance Joy

I love everything about this song, from the melody to the lyrics. Vance Joy is a wonderful artist with an amazing voice; there hasn't been a single song of his that I haven't liked, although this one definitely takes the cake as my favorite.

9. "Tiger Striped Sky" by Roo Panes

I can't really describe why I like this song so much, besides that fact that, when I listen to it, I just feel a deep, deep connection. It's a very calming and moving song, one that I could listen to on repeat for hours. Plus, it has a very Autumn-esque vibe to it, making it an instant winner.

10. "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence and The Machine

I really don't think I need to explain why I love this song so much, but I will anyways. First of all, the beat--dang, I could jam to it all day long. Second, the lyrics are so empowering and uplifting. I always listen to this song when I want to pump myself up, and it helps me to remember that better days will always come.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
