Staying on track with the music theme, here are some song suggestions for you to rub your ears upon. This is just a random assortment of a few that I currently admire (and that are all fairly recent).
They can be the fuel to your newly acquired freedom upon being released from the classroom. Or, you can just listen to them in your car alone. Either way, please do some vigorous air grinds with your pelvis no matter your circumstances. Here we go!
1. On Blue Mountain - Foxygen
I'm going to compare Foxygen to The Rolling Stones. Take that as you will, I'm just a mortal woman. Honestly, I would just suggest you listen to this entire album; it's a fun, bluegrass rock & roll sound that touches on life, consciousness, and getting high on the subway.
2. Birds - The Shacks
It's very difficult to define this song, not that it necessarily needs to be defined. It travels from funk to alt rock to some kind of odd folk sound. Whatever it is, it's an EXPERIENCE, and one that I suggest you partake in.
3. Tadow - Masego & FKJ
Want to get everyone in the room sexually aroused? Well, here's your tune. I'd classify this one as a mixture of Soundcloud DJ artist and jazz. I only say jazz because of the saxophone since that is the extent of my jazz knowledge. Maybe it'd be more accurate to say R&B. Or, maybe all of the terms I'm using are wrong and you should just listen to it for yourself.
4. Flowers On The Wall - Tomorrows Tulips
A simple and mellow little diddley. This song has a bummer pop sound that will only require some subtle hand movements as accompanied dance moves while you listen. Also, take a second to admire the album cover art.
5. Hunnybee - Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Your disco, R&B, psych-rock dreams can all come true with Hunnybee. UMO once again is able to transport the listener to an alternate musical dimension because of the ghostly funk contained within this song (and the rest of the album).
6. Holding On - Yellow Days
Beautiful boy creates beautiful music. Articulating states of depression and questioning the god above him, he will leave you lying back with closed eyes transfixed by the hazy soul and chill beats.
7. Beach Life-In-Death - Car Seat Headrest
A 13 minute music journey into the psyche of Will Toledo. He details everything from depression and self-loathing to romantic antics with a heavily Strokes-esc sound. So, it's simultaneously depressingly relatable and fun to listen to. My personal favorite line is: "I don't want to go INSAAAAAAAANE. I don't want schizophreniaaaaaaa."
8. Chronic Sunshine - Cosmo Pyke
Most definitely a beautiful summer anthem that will never fail to lighten any mood. Cosmo Pyke's wonderfully smooth voice is ideally complimented by soulful funk. Also, check out the music video to take in the sunshine of Pyke's face.
9. my boy - Billie Eilish
Finally found out what 'sus' means after hearing this song and wow how incredibly applicable. Billie is pretty young, but this song still does a pretty impressive job at depicting the commonly immature, emotionally unavailable male. On top of that, it's a fucking sultry-ass banger. Very fun to listen to.
10. Brutus - The Buttress
Sometimes it's highly necessary to get your freak on. This song should most definitely be your go to for those moments. It has a satanic vibe going on paired with badass female rapper bars which creates a balance that I have yet to find anywhere else.
11. Don't Bother Calling - Moses Sumney
Angelic is the word I would use to describe this one. Sumney's light and airy voice makes you feel like your floating. The worst part of this song is when it's over (haha aren't I hiLaRiouS).
