Songs That Make You Realize Why Broadway Music Is So Relatable

Well to start off, if you have never experienced Broadway or its music at all. Do it, do it now. This is also how I look at each song, so my hope is to not offend you.

"When Your Feet Don’t Touch the Ground," from "Finding Neverland."

This song is literally about how hard life can be viewed from different ages. It goes on to say how normal it is to feel the way you do, and that it is normal for life to be hard. It is a very unique song as it is something a normal person would be able to relate with. Which makes it 10 times better.

"Defying Gravity, from "Wicked."

This song is basically about being yourself as you go on through life. It gives you a chance to think about what you want and how you want to live. While a friend counter acts what you want and it challenges what you want. It’s a great song if you are wanting to express yourself.

"In My Life/ A Heart Full Of Love," from "Les Miserables."

This just touches your heart on so many levels. It is three different people explaining a love triangle, while two are in love and the other loving him but knowing she can’t have him. It is such a interesting way of hearing each point of view and you can just feel the emotion from each character.

"On My Own" from "Les Miserables."

This song has to follow because it follows "My Life" in the musical. And boy can you get chills from the song. If you have ever loved someone who hasn’t loved you back, this song is for you because I don’t think there is any other way of expressing your feelings but with this song. It is so beautiful and magical but so moving at the same time.

"Seasons Of Love" from "Rent."

This song is pretty common so I hope you have heard it before. This song has so much underlining meaning that will be hard to understand if you haven’t ever seen Rent. Which once again I highly recommend you do. But in the story each of the individuals are struggling with something in their lives and this song is just one way of expressing that they aren’t going to let those things get to them or their friendships.

"Falling Slowly" from "Once."

It is simply one of the most amazing songs one could want to listen to. It can be taken in two ways. One, you are falling in love. It could be a very romantic song and it can explain feelings in ways you never thought you could. Two, it could also mean that you are slowly losing yourself. And that you need help recovering. The story line of the show helps you understand what the song is truly about, but as you listen you can take it any way you want and that’s what makes it so amazing.

"For Good" from "Wicked."

Ever have someone in your life that has been truly amazing and someone you would never want to lose. Well this song is one that can be a tear jerker are times. It expresses emotions about how important some people can be to our lives and even though there can be rough patches, they still mean a lot to you. This is definitely one I would recommend sharing with a friend that you love a lot, as it can sometimes say what you can’t.

Those are just a few of the songs that I have had a connection with and some that are really known on Broadway. There are plenty more, I couldn’t list them all because most songs on Broadway can have some sort of connection with somebody. Dive in to the meaning of a Broadway song the next time you listen to one!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
