It’s that time of year again! Christmas lights, Christmas cookies, and the family all in town again. It’s a wonderful time of year. Every family has their own traditions of kicking off the following days to Christmas; my family likes to start the Christmas countdown with a Ho Ho Ho-ful holiday playlist. Here are the top ten songs to kick off you and your family’s holiday the right way.
1. All I Want For Christmas Is You – Mariah Carey
What better way to start off your Christmas day than with this song! This is such a feel-good song it automatically puts you in the holiday spirit. I highly recommend playing this while putting up your Christmas tree. Lord knows that can take hours. This song will make you want to grab your little Mariah Carey Christmas outfit and go outside and sing your heart out.
2. Rockin Around The Christmas Tree – Brenda Lee
This song is perfect for after putting up your Christmas tree and relaxing with a nice glass of eggnog. It makes me want to grab my fancy rob and waltz around the house.
3. Christmas Wrapping – The Waitresses
This puts a pretty cool retro feel on Christmas. It makes you just want to sit and bob your head ferociously to the awesome horn playing. And if you just love tangling yourself in wrapping paper this is definitely the honorary song to do it too.
4. Jingle Bell Rock – Bobby Helms
If this song doesn’t automatically make you think of the scene from Mean Girls something might be a tad bit wrong in your Christmas spirit my pal. It is almost a must to do the iconic dance number from the movie. This song most definitely should bring out your holiday mean girl. So four for you Glen Coco, you go Glen Coco!
5. Last Christmas – Wham!
As amazing as George Michael is, this is for sure one of my favorites. What a better way to lighten up a broken heart than with this song. And talk about the video! Who didn’t want to spend their Christmas in the snowy mountains like in the video?
6. The Christmas Song – Nat King Cole
Here’s a song to drink hot chocolate and sit in front of the fire for. After a day of putting up all things Christmas, this is a relaxing and peaceful song to just kick back to. The melody and piano playing are just so darn beautiful!
7. Let it Snow - Boyz II Men
Blessed with the melodic sounds of this group, they put a R&B spin on the classic song. The first time I actually heard this song was on my mother's 2004 Christmas playlist CD. So this song brings back a lot of childhood memories.
8. Christmas Time is Here- A Charlie Brown Christmas
Who doesn't love the Peanuts crew? One of the signs for sure that Christmas is here for me is 25 Days of Christmas on ABC and "A Charlie Brown Christmas." Once those come on I know it's the real deal. But who didn't love this sweet song followed by that rambunctious dance number? As a little kid, I tried my best to imitate every dance on there.
9. It's The Most Wonderful Time of Year - Andy Williams
Why not play this song because it literally is the most wonderful time of year! I remember always hearing this song when I was out Christmas shopping. It always put me in such a cheerful mood. I'm sure it will for you too!
10. This Christmas - Donny Hathaway
Last but certainly not least, this song has to be my personal all time favorite. This is the song the whole entire family gets up to dance to. It is a classic for every parent and every kid. Not only do the words make you feel at home but the sound puts a certain warmth in your heart. This is the song to solidify your Christmas playlist with.
Now, of course, this doesn't complete the list of the best Christmas songs every but these I have to say are some of my favorite. If you have some as well be sure to comment.
