We all have songs that we can't forget, but growing up with grandparents and a mother that worshiped music was probably one of the best things that ever happened to me. From listening to Elvis Presley to jamming out to the Butthole Surfers, my grandparents have always been musical. Here are five songs that I remember from my childhood, and maybe someone else remembers them too!
1.) "The Name Game" by Shirley Ellis
I will never forget the time my grandmother gave me a KidzBop CD with this song on it. However, I never liked it until she showed me the original. I also will never forget when Jessica Lange did a version of it on American Horror Story: Asylum.
2.) "Big Balls" by ACDC
I distinctly remember a trip to Indiana Beach with my parents and a few other close family members. My mom and I were jamming out in her sapphire blue Chrysler with the top down on the hour and a half drive down.
3.) "The Runaround" by Taylor Hicks
This song actually helped me through some rough times with an old boyfriend. This song by Taylor Hicks, winner of American Idol: Season 5, was on one of my mother's CD's. The CD, which I admit, I took from my mother specifically for this song.
4.) "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis Presley
While this song may seem basic, I love it. I grew really fond of Elvis in high school, but I can't lie: I love the twentyone pilots cover of this song. I could say I don't have anyone to thank for that, but I do. Bless the family I spent most of my high school career with and bless my music appreciation teacher for helping me broaden my musical experience.
And last but not least....
5.) Everything that has to do with Panic! At The Disco.
There isn't a way to avoid mentioning P!ATD and the influence they have had on my life. My aunt showed me their 2005 hit "I Write Sins, Not Tragedies" when I was in 6th grade. I'll admit, I didn't fall in love with Brendon Urie's magical voice with this song. I ended up falling in love with "Northern Downpour" from their second studio album, Pretty. Odd.
I owe a lot to my family for my diverse music choices. I'm very thankful for them, and everything they have done for me.
