A good cry is not really that good unless there is something to accompany your sobs. Need a little help releasing your emotions? Turn on these beauties and release the tears my friends.
Sea Of Love- Cat Power
Echoing vocals and a soft but prominent chords from an acoustic guitar pull you in right away. It is a love song, and sometimes you cry about love.
The Luckiest- Ben Folds
Mr. Folds has mastered the art of reaching people's hearts. Smooth arpeggios on the piano and heartfelt lyrics makes me feel lucky to have come across this touching tune.
The Moon Song (Film Version)- Scarlett Johansson & Joaquin Phoenix
The entire Her soundtrack is gold, but I only recently came back to this due to a friends instagram post. I cannot take it off repeat. Scarlett Johansson has sung on movie tracks before and her smokey voice most likely has something to do with that. This cute lullaby-esque piece of music is perfect for your bedtime ritual.
To Build A Home- The Cinematic Orchestra
This song just gets you in the feels. The Cinematic Orchestra knows how to convey an enormous amount of emotion through music. This song doesn't fall short when it comes to bringing tears to your eyes.
Silhouette- Tom Odell
Sometimes singers have a little nervousness or tremble in their voice, Odell is one of them. This makes the lyrics feel like more than just words.
Lighthouse- Patrick Watson
The beginning of this song makes you feel like you are being swept away down a calm river. It's soft, melodic, and sweet.
Don't Wanna Be Your Girl- Wet
This one leans a little more into the pop genre, the words are what hits you in the feels. Even though it makes use of a drum pad and other electronic touches, I have shed a tear or two, and it is less than 3 minutes.
Machine- Scott Helman
I love this song so much. It is real and to the point. That is all.
Breathe Me- Sia
It's Sia, how much more convincing do you need to give it a listen? Very relatable.
5AM- Amber Run
I will be honest, multiple tracks from Amber Run can bring out the deepest of emotions. This one is no exception to that, especially when you take the time to dig into the lyrics.
Gloomy Sunday, Take 1- Billie Holiday & Teddy Wilson
This may be an oldie, but it is hard to beat the distinctly captivating vocals of Ms. Holiday. Gloomy is in the title, you can only assume it may help you connect to a gloomy feeling you may be encountering.
Don't Forget About Me- Cloves
This track comes from the film "Me Before You", and if you have seen it you may understand how this song could make you fill a mason jar with your tears.
Between the Bars- Elliot Smith
A little more upbeat, and it almost sounds as if there are multiple people singing in unison, adding a lot of depth. For me, it just sounds comforting, though the lyrics may make you feel otherwise.
Life can get murky, but listening to these works of art can help clear the waters a bit. Curl up in bed, light a candle, and let the music pour into the soul. Find the playlist for efficient listening here! https://open.spotify.com/user/124801270/playlist/1hV6lQyy1r4tMtXlVeuELA
