My Top 7 Songs For Summer 2016

This past summer has been a GREAT summer for music. With the summer winding down, I wanted to share a few songs that I’ve been jamming to non-stop this summer. After this, break out the jack-o-lanterns and Christmas lights!

1. Smells Like Summer - Early Hours

This is the first song on my “16th Summer” playlist and it’s the perfect, typical, top down, hands up, summer jam! With the rockout guitar intro and build up to the end, it really was my go-to song whenever I wanted to have a perfect summer party.

2. This Is What You Came For - Calvin Harris

If someone asked me to describe my summer in one song, it would be this one. Calvin never ceases to amaze me with his radio hits and this one is ultimately my favorite track he’s ever released. With Rihanna as the main vocalist and Taylor Swift on background vocals, this song will thrive on any playlist it’s on.

3. Be Alright / Into You - Ariana Grande

These Ariana Grande tracks are so perfect that it was so hard to pick just one. These songs never fail to play back to back when I shuffle my playlist and I cannot choose a favorite out of the two. Both tracks from Ariana’s newest album, “Dangerous Woman” are hits in my book. Be Alright is an inspiring track that you want to dance to with your best friends without a care in the world. Into You, on the other hand, has sickening bass techno beats that makes this track beautifully produced. Definitely a must have for both.

4. Love On The Brain - Rihanna

Although this song came from Rihanna’s album that came out this past February, it was always a song I listened to only once in awhile. This summer, I really wanted to amplify this anthem. This sensual and lyrically riveting track has an amazing vibe that I still won’t stop listening to. This is easily one of Rihanna’s best songs as it utilizes her amazing vocal talent and has such a unique and soulful feel to it. An amazing song that every Rihanna fan needs to know about.

5. Juke Jam - Chance The Rapper

This playlist would not be 2016 Summer themed if it did not have a song from Chance’s latest album, “Coloring Book.” This album was an awesome album to vibe to with its personal tracks and unique theme. The song, Juke Jam, was another song similar to Love On The Brain, where I would sit outside and watch the summer sunset while listening to this track. This song has such a chill vibe and Justin Bieber singing the chorus was an awesome addition.

6. Omen - Disclosure

I’ve never heard of this song until I listened to Disclosure’s amazing album, “Caracal” all the way through. Following his latest track with Disclosure titled “Latch,” Sam Smith returns with another song that is so easy to bop too. There isn’t much to say about this track except that it gets me GOING. Listen to find out what I mean.

7. Ivy - Frank Ocean

My final must have song for the summer of course goes to a track off of Frank Ocean’s extremely anticipated album titled “Blonde.” This entire album is literal perfection, but my all time favorite from it has to be Ivy. This track’s sound is pure Frank and it gives me everything I wanted in a new Frank track. Beautiful sounds, laid back vocals, stunning production, and a great message. Perfection.

Well, there are my summer must haves! Although the year is more than halfway over, that doesn’t mean the release of new music is over! (I’m looking at you Lorde.)

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
